So I tore my Achilles on Sunday and had surgery yesterday. The pain block wore off about two hours ago and the pain is kicking my arse. Doc said it should start to feel better by Friday but that seems like a long way off. What should I expect post op for the next 24-48 hours? More pain? Herpes?

I’m elevating and taking the Vicodin they gave me along with some aspirin. Elevating and icing the knee (nurse said icing the knee will make its way down to the heel). Not sure if it works but I will try anything at this point.

You have to ingest the Vicodin as a suppository. It's closer to the achilles, thus works faster.

ETA: Yes, I'm a doctor.

It’s easiest to have your partner put the Vicodin on their penis and insert it that way.

My doctor kept me in the hospital overnight (1999). I did IV painkillers in the hospital and ibuprofen after that at home. Pain was not bad after the first 24 hours for me.

Are you sure the pain is in the leg that you injured?

There is a common phenomenon known as “Phantom-Jealous Pain” that manifests frequently in prepubescent females suffering similar symptoms as you so perfectly describe.

Sorry amigo. You are just going to have to deal with it. I remember my calf muscle spasming and pulling on the recently braided achilles stands and sutures. frick that memory.
I feel for you brother.

I had no pain the first 24 hours with the pain block. It is a completely different story now.

I just had surgery on May 1

The pain block didn't last long. For me, they detached my Achilles tendon and scraped off a large bone spur. Then reattached the tendon

The pain meds had no relief on me for the 5-6 days.
