First time being on one? You may be able to get out of it. I got summoned back in October for the first time and it was on a day that I absolutely could not make it. Called the clerk and if it’s your first time, they allowed me to postpone it up to six months. This in LA though

I can tell you from experience that some judges will make an arse out of you if you're blatantly trying to get out of it. I was on one and enjoyed it. Do your civic duty. It's bad if juries are only made up of people who were too dumb to get out of jury duty

Jury system is the worst. Most are ignorant and and cannot understand the evidence or fall for a slick lawyers spin on the facts. Three Judges for all trials other than capital crimes then go to five. All guilty people want a jury.

I was supposed to have it this week. Told them I would be out of the country, so they moved it to June and said don't ask again. I'm gonna show up with several movies downloaded and a bag of snacks. The wife had it last year and said the process of picking a jury took 4 days and they just sat in a room all day.

I turned 18 shortly before a presidential election and was allowed to register at 17. About a week or two later I got jury duty and got out of it because I was not 18 (and in high school). Over 20 years later and I have still never been summoned again.
I think I found a cheat code.

If they don't send the letter certified mail they can't prove you've gotten it.

Wear a branched Davidian tee shirt! Problem solved.

95% chance you'll be dismissed around 2pm.

I've always enjoyed jury duty but this is definitely on point. I was on a jury trial where a guy was arrested for his 6th DUI & hos lawyer wheeled the guy's dad on there in a wheelchair & argued he should be let off bc he had to take care of him. Get back in the jury room & all the women thought that was a valid reason to acquit.

Or…. Here is another idea.
Do your civic duty.
Would you burn your draft card too?

Be an attorney. You’ll still get summoned but it’s very unlikely that you’ll be selected for a jury.
That’s all I got.

Years ago my niece got called into jury duty for a murder trial. While being interviewed or when the officials were talking to the group of potential jurors, I forgot which, she makes a rather loud comment. "Sounds guilty to me" lol She was released soon after! lol Just be loud and opinionated, especially about their guilt or innocence, and I guarantee you will be released.
lol just making a farce of the process when a person’s life is on the line or a victim’s family is seeking justice lol so funny lol bet the lawyer working his arse off found that so funny lol gotta get outta here so I can scroll TikTok on my couch for 8 hours lol lol lol

Enjoyed it a quite a bit.
The other jurors were very cool and we got to send a child molester to Angola for 10-15.
This is 100% the attitude to have.
I don’t understand the auto-response of “I gotta get out of this” when summoned. Everybody bitches about “the system” and when asked to participate in a very fundamental way, they run away like children on a playground fleeing some imaginary ick.
Just do it OP. Most of the time they just dismiss you anyway (twice for me) but you never know. You might just put a monster in prison or keep an innocent person out.

I have never been summoned, but if I ever do, unless it’s certified mail, that shits going straight in the trash

You should do your duty.
That said, the easiest way to get out of jury duty is INSISTING that you would have to hear the defendant testify even though you understand its his right not to.
The line "I understand its his right to not testify, but if he's not guilty, he should want to tell his side of the story" has gotten a lot of people out of jury duty.

How to GTFO of jury duty
I was on a criminal case jury years ago (even got selected to be the foreman of the jury by the other jurors) and it was one of the most eye-opening experiences of my adult life.
It actually restored some of my faith in our criminal justice system.
