So the above styled aircraft should have engaged a strike fighter with what? their box lunches?

Also worth meationing that the Poseidon is based on a 737 platform.

So the Russian pilot was literally showing off his “skillz” to an airliner.

other than the venerable A10, there will never be a more badass looking modern military fighter than the Navy F14 & (USAF)F15 Eagle IMO. Strictly from a visual perspective. F4 is close though.

I agree with this take. Tired of our military always playing the victim in public like this.

I only had up close experience with the f14 out of that list, but can tell you the f14 was a bad mofo. No idea why we obsoleted them and kept the f18 but probably because of how versatile the f18 had become. We used to go up to the flight deck to watch them practice for air shows and nothing compared to a pair of f14's coming in slow as frig and then breaking the sound barrier by 2x + the speed of sound. It would scare the crap out of you AND in a blink they would be gone.

Up close, they were a HUGE heavy fat arse awesome looking bird.

I would argue that the Poseidon staying on station proves the Navy is not soft.

SU35 attempted to deter the P8 from hunting likely a Russian submarine and the antics were unsuccessful.

Us acting all butthurt over it is stupid. We patrol and surveil all the world and sometimes it makes us encounter others. BZ to the Russian pilots on their move and having fun.

No kidding. Seems like Ivan was just having some fun and showing off his cool toy to his American friends. Hope our guys gave him a nice thumbs up.

maintenance time was huge part of it. and the tomcats were not easy to fly. ook at their safety record on the tail end of their service.... was ugly..... and I love tomcats

Based on the years I lived and worked in Russia, I have to say there is a pretty good chance the pilot didn't intentionally fly his plane upside down...
