And the Ferrari would probably ignite just after the Camry started to pull away.

I'd love an 80's Ferrari, but talk about next level money pit.

My dad had a 308 in 83, maintenance was horrendous.

Mercedes of BR has a 2012 Camaro ZL1 with < 10,000 miles on the lot for $42k.

I mean, I love em, but 31K is low money for a Porsche.

Good deals on a 996 are out there in that price range. Not that the 996 is a stand out Porsche but it's still nicer than a mustang but a long shot.

If he holds out another year and turns that $30k into $40k or $45k more doors will start to open.

What else are good thoughts on a "toy" car in the 35k range?

Ehh.

I'd say the interiors about about the same. Mustang will have more amenities if you're into that.

Mustang also slightly edges it out on all the "big" performance stats.

Mustang also comes with a warranty.

Yeah, I'm a big Porsche guy, but if I'm just looking for a good dependable fun ride, I'd take the new GT over whatever Porsche the $35K gets me. At $45K it's another story.

I would check out the manual Camaro too, but I think Ford has a better interior than GM in the pony-car wars.

Word is Chevy remedied that in a major way. The Camaro interior supposedly got the remake the Vette got.

For 31K I'd rock that bad boy in a heartbeat.

You're damn right.

Trashy, no. Fast and cheap, absolutely.

Yeah, Ford SCCA track cars were beating the shite out of BMW's so badly that BMW demanded they put a weight penalty on the Mustangs. Mustangs continued to beat them. Don't think you know how well dialed in the chassis and suspension is on the current gen Mustangs.

Truth. Chevy and Ford deserve a lot of credit for putting cars on the market that can put up similar track times as some of the Euro cars such as the M3 or M4.

One of the biggest bang for the buck out there is the $33~k performance packaged base Mustang GT that includes the big Brembo brakes and Torsen rear diff. Take that and for a few grand add some extra suspension goodies and stickier tires. Also add headers, exhaust, CAI, and tune if you're willing to void your powertrain warranty. Now you have a 440-450ish RWHP car that handles like its on rails for under $40k.

One thing the Mustang has above any competitor is aftermarket support.

Would be awesome.

I have no idea, but I wonder what it's like if you need maintenance on one of those. Assuming it's not something simple it's not like the local shop will have ever seen a car like that before.

The cars from japan you want to import most likely have a US version. With parts easily accessible.

The exception is the r32-33 skylines. Good news is the motor from these cars (RB25 & RB26) have been being imported for the last 10 years. These motors people have been putting into 240sx's etc.

That's exactly the car I drove yesterday. $35k sticker with the performance package but it had the stickier tires.
