For a little bit more money you can get a Porsche. 996 can be had with your budget. Go drive one. It's a much much better car than lame a pootiestang. Plus the Porsche won't tank on it's value like the pusstang.

Look closer then. It's been packeged as a judge. Took a GTO and made it a "tribute" by decking it out in a judge package.

If it was a rag top, I would jump on it.

What else are good thoughts on a "toy" car in the 35k range?

Depends what you want your toy to do. You can have a lot of fun on track or curvy roads with a Lotus. You can get a good Lotus Elise for $35K drive it for a year or two then sell it for $35K. They appear to be holding value around that number.

Or you can get a 996 Carrera with less than 5,000 on the clock for $35K.

i have a bunch of friends that race in "Mexico" with 5.0's. You can put the 2.9l kenne bell blower on it and push 12 pounds of boost with the only supporting mods being injectors and oil pump gears.

Kenne Bell and Whipple have some top notch blower kits on the new 5.0's. Basically for around $7-8k and little mechanical knowledge, you could have a Hellkitty killing 700-750 hp to the wheels on pump gas and 800+ on E85. Good luck with traction though.

Thoughts on scion fsr?
you mean the FR-S
Awesome little track car. Light weight and fun as shite in a manual. I almost traded my Caliber for one in a release series 1.0. Plus the engine bay has plenty of room to swap a V8 in. Someone just swapped an LS3 in one and it ran in the very low 11's.

Also, remember the FR-S and the Suburu BRZ is the exact same car. Along with the Toyota GT86(Japan).

What Porsche you gonna buy for 31K? In terms of miles/age?

I mean, I love em, but 31K is low money for a Porsche.

They didn't make a 69 GTO judge ragtop. There are some for sale but they were people who took the lemans convertible and badged it out like a GTO. Still sweet.

Edit: later GTOs did have convertibles. They take some and paint them carousel red and install the 69 front bumper and badge it out like the iconic 69

How old of an M3 can you get for that kinda of dough? It would drive the doors off the Ford in any year.

Scat pack R/T is going to be in the mid 40s. You can get the R/T + with the 5.7 and 385 hp in the mid 30s.

Even if you find a Porsche for $35k in any kind of decent condition (I doubt it) keep in mind the outlandish maintenance costs. I speak from experience. Nothing like a $250 oil change and god forbid you have to take it in the shop for any real work. I am good with a wrench but no way I am tearing into that engine or messing with the electronics. Joe the Mechanic down the street can't work on it and a true Porsche mechanic gets paid like a doctor.

If you want a "fun" car, get the Mustang or one of the other base domestic ones mentioned here. We are finally in a time where you can get something that can be called a muscle car. Enjoy it. Only buy a classic if you are prepared to work on it. Just a fact with something old.

Agreed, the Porsche tax is a real thing and I wouldn't buy one from 2000 like I linked. Just throwing out suggestions. Another crazy suggestion that I would love to own is the Gen 1 Viper GTS ACR. I think they can be had for around $40K.

Still looks great after all these years!

I found a 2006 Carrera S with 35k miles for 38-40k. M3s are stout.........

Best car I've researched was a 2012 Shelby with 12k miles for $34k.......gone in no time.

From what I've heard, they drive like crap. Oh and don't get into a fender bender or it's totalled.

I hear you but I would still love to own one. For something out of left field that will yeild and almost immediate return on investment find a legally imported GTR that's as close to stock as possible. importavehicle.com is your friend.

If you have to buy new, I think your options are limited. The mustang sounds like the best bang for the buck.

If you're willing to buy used, any of the pony cars are in your price range. If you're willing to do a little leg work, you can find a 2010-2012 Corvette base model in that range.
