I do think everybody simultaneously raised their standards and lowered their willingness to compromise.

I know people like this. I really think some men just prefer it. And I can certainly see where it might be easier/less stress.

I also know a couple of guys that married women from foreign countries they met while living in their countries - not like mail order bride thing. Neither of these women spoke English well (so no sarcasm, shared jokes, etc). Always thought it must be so difficult to connect on any sort of deep level that way.

My guess was that it must just be for the reasoning you give. Simple, easy, less headache.

Not too far from 40 and been seeing someone for almost two years. Don’t think we’ll get married. I like how it is now: see her about 3/4 days a week and we do our own separate things the other days.

Nah...I'm 50+, never married, and am not anything near a narcissist. I just never was in the mood to put up with the bullshite a lot of my married guy friends have to deal with fron their wife.

This is the biggest issue facing the country. Just look at how marriage and the family has been destroyed in the black community. Thats where we are headed.

Why was the number so high from 1900 to 1940?

This has been a depressing thread to read. There's nothing better than being married to a good woman. I'd hate to be locked with someone who wasn't great, that'd be awful. My wife is my best friend, fun, beautiful, and a terrific mother. Marriage takes work and both sides have to work.

so if you haven’t grabbed one by the time you are about out of college you will be finding one who spent a lot of time riding the cock carousel. This is less an issue in a lot of huge metro areas like Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles, etc, where there are a lot of young professionals out there.

Women in large cities are much bigger whores than ones from small college towns like Baton Rouge, are you being serious? The sample size is infinitely bigger in Houston than Baton Rouge.

Because they approach dating like they do business, Systematically

lists, exclusions, and very few relate to anything beyond superficial

These trends are troubling. Take a look at black communities where the institution of marriage virtually disappeared

Yeah, but are they having any children? Otherwise you get all that wonderful genetic material your ancestors nurtured through a million years of human history and generations and you just waste it.

If it’s that wonderful, we’d be able to get laid and have kids

I don't see the problem here. Seems like Men are smartening up. Divorce law, child custody law, etc. is extremely skewed towards Women. Why deal with all that when you can sit back and have a different dessert every week if you want?

The problem is that your culture is becoming increasingly atomized and unraveling.
