maybe they could start taxing Roth withdrawals
everyone over the age of 59 1/2 would with draw all money in Roth IRA, before the tax law could kick in

I'd put a higher probability on China nuking us than US politicians raiding retirement accounts.
If something like that is on the table for real, you probably don't even have anything left in retirement savings because you've already withdrawn everything and converted it to bullets and fire wood.

approaching 2 mill +. I'd be nice to have that and retire at 55
Health care cost would be the issue. Over the course of the decade until 65, if you average 2K a month for those 120 months, that's nearly a quarter of your savings spent before 65.

Just wait till the vast majority of the country is broke with no savings and the person who saved and built a nest egg is deemed the new rich class to vilify.
They literally elected a guy in NY that just said they would seize rental property after an inspection and turn it over to another entity. All to thunderous applause.

People say a lot of things. I'd like to see Mamdani try.

Are we talking bank accounts alone or including investment accounts?

My company keeps our insurance in effect from 55 to 65 if we retire early.

This is why Social Security can never go away, under current circumstances, and can’t be significantly reduced.
The government created a dependency and got the vast majority hooked on it.

How is this even possible? Damn

Once social security dries up and the Democrats get in charge, they will be divvying your 401K and retirement to those less privileged (poc). I can see that happening.

Was never meant to be your sole income in retirement. It’s supposed to be a supplement. It’s like the fast food workers that say they need a ‘living wage’ despite fast food jobs are meant to be entry into the workforce not ‘careers’.

Doesn’t matter. It’s going to be the sole income for most.

It was a very eye opening conversation.
Damn.
I max out my employer match and tell every new hire to do the same.

I have a separate brokerage outside of my 401k as a bridge account if I want to retire early, kinda worries me they’ll raid that first.
What is all this conspiracy raiding mentioned in this thread?
