A main reason for unemployment is that people's bad choices have caught up with them

Folks out here in their 30's and 40's with no high school diploma complaining about not finding a job that pays a decent wage. I'm not even going to touch on the criminal background factor because that speaks for itself.

Their options are limited because of their own actions and the jobs that they may get considered for are not good enough (from their deluded perspective).

"That's all y'all pay?"...."Who wants to work for that?"

There are plenty of available jobs out here. People don't want to take what is out there...and that's on them.

That's an excuse. If anyone has any sort of work ethic and drive, they can find gainful employment without needing an education.

This is an odd thread considering that unemployment is now at a 50-year low.

Was talking to a guy that owns a Chik Fil A (operator..not store manager). He said in this current economy it is next to impossible to find solid employees unless you steal them from comparable places and give them a big pay hike. The people out there now who are fully unemployed are the absolute bottom of the barrel. All of the hard workers and punctual loyal folks already have decent jobs. Only the total shitbirds are left.

This is the absolute truth. If you want a decent employee, you have to poach them from another business. Anyone without a job right now is a completely worthless piece of shite.

That's not even a factor. There is something out there for every person.
Some give up, some don't.

Swear to everything, I have made a damn good living before, going out in the woods collecting different kinds of moss and wild flowers. Diving in the river for mussels, still watching for that good job to come along, and then using that to go into business for myself.
Your only limits, are your own.

OP isn't wrong.

We have people that walk into our offices all the time looking for work. When the receptionist tells them we accept applications/resumes online only, they will become irate.

"What if I don't have a computer?" or "I don't know how to use a computer!".

Had a guy walk in the other day in his pajamas with flip flops asking to fill out an application.

I wish them well, but at some point, people have to know better.

What if they live in an area without a lot of jobs and they don't have a vehicle and there is no public transportation?

If they are good workers, there are farmers and foresters that will damn sure come by and get them. The work is hard but it's a start. I've done it, I wasn't above it, I needed a paycheck and a good reference.

Agreed. In my job capacity I have to go to and set up a lot of job fairs. The kind of people that show up are totally lazy shitbags that seem like they don't give a damn. You have a few people that were laid of that come dressed for the job they want, but it's really infuriating to see a guy talk to a company with his arse showing.

From what I hear from my manager friends, they have trouble filling job openings because so many people can't pass a drug test.

This is a huge issue. I've gotten so many people jobs that end up losing them over drugs, or just not showing up.
