Well the current LSU students can thank my generation. We footed the bill and saw nothing from it other than they re did one dorm and started on the union.
Fifth floor soldier here, RIP whore door.

Why did they name a building for a tree that is not native to Louisiana?

Then moved to the shitty apartments next to Raising Canes. It was an improvement.

When did the last of the LSU dorms get A/C? I started in the mid 90's and knew people living in dorms without air conditioning. It baffled me then. But to see how good the students have shite now compared to then is pretty amazing. I thought I was living the high life my freshman year b/c we jammed 4 of us in a shitty 3 bedroom in Sharlo while some were without A/C on campus.

As most on here know, Kirby Smith Hall is to be torn down at end of school year.
Question for folks who were in that area after Gustav. Any truth to the no-name serial killer van that apparently used to be parked there?

From the posts here and from what I've heard, thank God I only had to spend a week in Kirby Smith during Boys State in summer 1981 (is Boys State still a thing?) Spent my LSU years (early-mid 80s) at an apartment off Gardere (before it became ghetto; apartment's not even there anymore), North Stadium (a lot of fun, but no A/C, and of course hasn't been used as dorms for years), and the Pentagon (Zachary Taylor Hall; liked that the best, despite the lack of a/c).
Never went to LSU until grad. school, commuted 1995-1999. But stayed in K.S. for Boys' State, as well.
Remember that the toilets had no doors, so people would sneak in and steal the toilet paper while you were sitting there.

I think it was mid 70s when several kids jumped to their deaths. I seem to remember a fraternity or two sitting in lounge chairs in the parking lot after placing a bulls eye in the parking lot.

Haven’t they wanted to tear this thing down for a long time?
Was supposed to be removed in 2005, then enrollment increased dramatically after BCS NC.
Then it was scheduled for removal in 2007-2008, but Katrina and Rita screwed up the housing market off campus for about 5-6 years so they needed the space on campus to house students.
I think they turned part of it into temp office spaces for a while as well while Pleasant Hall and MDA were being renovated. I guess they finally don't have the need for that space anymore.
It's at least as ugly of a building as Middleton. It was designed to be indestructible, not necessarily practical or high quality. I'm glad LSU has moved beyond that type of building. The newer housing looks to be much higher quality, but their naming blows.
Kirby Smith is a much better name that "Spruce Hall" or "Cypress Hall".

That place was a pure shithole, but a ton of fun, and lots of stories. My first day there, my dad was helping me move in and didn't want to wait on the elevators to go to the 9th floor. A minute later, the elevator opens and I get on with all of my crap, not noticing the guy in the corner who had been riding up and down all day until the door closed. He asked me if I wanted to join "the sock club" - that's all he was wearing. I told him hell no, and luckily the elevator opened up shortly after. Never saw that guy again, or maybe I did, but he was just wearing clothes the next time and I didn't recognize him.
