Wasn't Independence right in the path of the eastern eye wall? Why would they move residents from Jefferson Parish or Orleans parish there?

In any case, that area is a long ways from having electricity and everything back up and running. They should probably return them to their nursing facilities if they can.

Well, these nursing home people were supposed to be taken care of by the nursing home or their families (depending on the health of the patient). Because they cannot prepare or evacuate themselves. However, it seems as if the nursing homes did not have a proper plan in place (there are rules they are supposed to follow) and the nursing home administrators/owners are useless.

ETA: LDH should really help or make sure nursing homes follow the proper protocol with this especially with what happened after Katrina.

Little to nothing will happen, because as stated above, the nursing home industry in this state has far too much influence (read $$) in the capitol building.

Lock them all up in a warehouse
They stole a lot of money from their residents.

real talk/tough love

anyone who winds up in one of those houses of horror has been abandoned by their families and the blame lies squarely on them. these are not high-end facilities that sent their patients to a fricking warehouse, they are the disposable forgotten wards of the state who exist now only to bilk medicare/medicaid.

i realize that some people age out alone/without means, and i realize that the burden of elder care strains the capability of many. but the fact is that the majority of the patients living in these chop shops are simply being passed from a living welfare program to a dying one. it is a stain upon our society that this is allowed to happen, but that does not absolve personal responsibility on the part of the relatives of the aged.

Four deaths in a home where old folks are taken to die is about normal, IMO.

My Sister-in-law, 75, broke her leg. She was sent to a Nursing home for physical therapy/rehab. Her roomate died in a couple of days. The replacement patient who came in also died in a couple of days.

Old folks home owner that I know (TX) are business men first, middle, and last.

See revenue per bed, not human beings. If you push them (I once did) to see people, not $, took me three attempts for them to say the right things. Brownsville, TX to be specific.

Told me everything I needed to know about that “service” industry.

yes, and thats exactly what the police chief rather tactlessly said. you round up 800+ of the sick and dying, bus them 60 miles to warehouse in a hurricane...4 dead is a fricking miracle

This appears worse than St Rita’s after Katrina when they charged the owners.
Bob Dean needs to burn in hell.

Those people should be immediately fired for neglect for knowing a situation was really bad and trying to cover it up.

Not quite the same since 34 people were left to drown in their beds and wheelchairs. By the way the owners were acquitted.

Google will give you all sorts of information.

truly hope that people here realize that the OWNERS and the staff are NOT the same. As in the staff, at least the staff that I can personally speak of which isn't many of course relative to the industry, LOVE and take great care of their residents.

So who didnt let the state inspectors in the facility? Was that corporate or staff?

ETA: im not being sarcastic. Its a real question.

WVUE

Lengthy interview with police chief. He comes off much worse when you hear him speak. Also the sheriff of Tangipahoa is brother to the chief and governor, I had no idea.
