Trump said that self employed/1099 contractors are also going to be eligible for the portion the Fed is funding.

It will be abused.

Isn't that what Tim Scott and Graham are trying to change? The typo in the current bill allows for up to 800, but it was supposed to be only a total of 600.

It is $600 a week, it was originally reported $600 additional per week but that was walked back by multiple news sources. Still, $600 a week is a lot for doing nothing, not being taxed. I wonder if you could get food stamps on top of that. I use to have trouble hiring qualified candidates for jobs that started at around $30K because people made almost that much on welfare without having to pay taxes.. single people.

That’s part of the problem with the bill right now. Lindsey Graham said if you live in SC you would get $24.17/hour on unemployment. Gives the incentive for employers to lay people off. Who would want to go back to work making that kind of money?

And yet these same senators (Sasse, the Scotts, Graham) were not only silent, but SUPPORTED, a $500B slush fund for large corporations.

Say you're a project coordinator, IT tech, or a bartender pulling down $50k a year and you lose your job because of Corona. What good are the current unemployment payments going to do to keep you from losing your home, ruining your credit, losing your vehicle, etc? It's not going to do shite. The $600/week bonus is basically a bailout to workers that will cost FAR less than the corporate bailout on the table.

This isn't about welfare queens or fricking slackasses, these are people who were working and lost their jobs through no fault of their own. Have some fricking empathy, assholes.

Small business owners will be the biggest losers in this. Employees will either get paid by their employers or by the government. Meanwhile, small businesses will lose a month or two of revenue. The solution for them, “ tough shite, go get a loan”.

26 weeks

You are going to have so many people rather being on unemployment than going to work that after 26 weeks they will extend it because so many people will still be on it. I would prefer unemployment be staggered where the amount reduces each week after 4-8 weeks.

The higher pay isn’t for 26 weeks. Unemployment can last as long as 26 weeks as a benefit.

If it’s $800 why would people work if they could collect that

You damned right it will be. $41,000/year for unemployment?

That can't be right or at least can't be for very long. I hope like hell there is some way that it can be verified that those people HAD A JOB through February 2020.

Anything else in unacceptable.

UI is a federal program administered by the states. They'll pump a bunch of money into it.

Anything over State max or longer than 26 weeks will come from the Feds thru state programs.

The SBA clauses are quite generous to small business owners from my understanding. I'm not one so haven't dug too far into it but sounds like there's going to be plenty of help available.

One time I filed for unemployment and I think I got just over $150 a week. There would be less incentive for people to find a job if they were getting $800 a week.

Damn I didn’t get layed off. I asked to take a 3 week break 5 weeks ago waiting for a government job( electrical) and damn now they say they may shut down the base. I’ll miss out on free money. Insert banging head against the wall.
