I mean, religious stories aside, it's becoming more clear something dramatic happened to the planet 12,000 years ago. It was dramatic enough to be recorded into hard memory by almost every culture around the world.

No, flood stories exist because floods have happened all over the world for thousands of years. The stories don't all refer to something that happened 12000 years ago.

I know people love to voice their displeasure over certain aspects of life, whether it be inflation, social issues, education, hell sports etc.

But then something like this happens and puts everything into perspective.

Imagine being a first responder going into these damaged buildings and rubble to look for victims, all while knowing another aftershock could occur at any moment and doom you to the same fate.

Terrible situation and lots of brave emergency workers out there. Prayers to all of them.

Incerlik, it’s on the SE side of Adana. They are roughly 50 miles from the epicenter.

Man this really sucks. I was in Turkey for 5 months in 2018. Really great people and a beautiful country. Adana is a lot like San Antonio and Gaziantep is one of the oldest cities in the world. I’ve been to all of the places affected. It’s pretty sad.

Were you stationed there? I don’t know that part of the country well at all.

I wonder how much higher the death toll will. Kocaeli in 1999 had close to 20,000 deaths and this is closer to major cities (albeit ones much smaller than Istanbul).

Yes, I flew ‘hawks there in ‘17-‘18. It truly is a beautiful country. Looks so much like California. These buildings may not be up to our standards in areas where earthquakes impact building codes, but they are really solid buildings. It’s not shanti’s and shacks.

Graham Hancock, Ancient Aliens, etc. are turning people into morons. All anyone has to do is read about the actual research but no one does. They'd rather listen to dishonest theories based on very incomplete evidence.

BREAKING: Death toll from Turkey-Syria earthquake passes 3,000, more than 15,000 injured

Seeing all those buildings collapse it would not surprise me if it reached 20k. Hoping and praying that it doesn't

It is being reported over 3,000 by some with 15,000+ injured.

The estimate has the death toll possibly in the tens of thousands.

ETA: Bobby posted the tweet I saw.

that is my fear as well. the dead they are finding are the "easy to locate" bodies. those on the 1st floor of a multi story building require a ton of material to be removed before they can uncover the lower levels. that will take time and a lot of equipment. those numbers arent being reported yet.

That second M7.5 "aftershock" (being realistic that was another major earthquake) likely undid a lot of progress first responders and search/rescue had made. There's likely no accurate way to ever say how many survived the first, only to die in the second.

And you know that given the time, ~4am, that most people were likely in their homes or apartments.

Couple that with it happening at 3am when everyone was home asleep.

I am not going to post the photo or link the tweet but I will post the description that really puts things in perspective. It can be found at the users @ if one wants to see.

They were found crushed under the rubble after the earthquake

The way the father was still holding onto and protecting his son even in his last moments

Wallahi these pictures and videos coming live from the disaster are heartbreaking
