Thank you. Very interesting. Let's hope that this never happens again.

Knowing that this event happened almost 80 years ago, and that we as well as other countries have probably developed weapons 10x as strong as the 3 atomic bombs is somewhat scary.

I understand the need for why we dropped them. But also I earnestly pray that something like this never happens again or at least in my lifetime.

It's a good thing that they weren't aware we didn't have any more bombs ready.

We had a POW named Marcus McDilda who lied (under torture, of course, because the Japs were fricking evil) and told them we had hundreds more ready to go. Some people think that this story convinced Jap leadership that we really did have a stockpile and the bombings weren't going to stop.

I would encourage you read up on what they did to POWs before comparing anyone else to them. I think McDilda was going through mock executions and they had the beheading sword out and ready to use.

Beheading was a favorite of the Japs.

I'm not sure the Japanese would agree with that one.

For the ones close enough to the hypocenter it was very peaceful. Didn't feel a thing. They likely didn't even see the flash.

That's where I want to be if the birds ever fly. Directly under one. From alive to nothingness in microseconds. Orders of magnitude too quick for any realization or sensation to register.

Would’ve been cooler had they been vaped 12/8/41.

It would have been significant to match the dates, but not feasible. My dad fought on Okinawa. He always told me that he had written orders in hand following the taking of Okinawa for a full scale invasion of Japan. Thank God they dropped the bombs when they did. The death toll on both sides would have been massive if they waited until December.

A very similar description could be written of a 10,000 pound TNT bomb. These were routinely used by the Japanese, Germans, Americans, etc. They did horrific things to human bodies - children, woman, elderly, everybody. The difference was in magnitude not really in effect.

Tell the people who had loved ones killed in the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, the German bombing of London, or the US/British bombing of Dresden that the atomic bomb was more immoral. It was just bigger and more effective, which is why the good guys won the war.
