Where they making those comments while in the line of duty or on a city/police force social media site?

This has already been covered and dealt with. No one is immune from their actions off the job.

I categorically reject this. Especially when it's "some possibly anti-muslim facebook posts found by researchers."

shite like this has ALWAYS been part of police, fire, EMS, hospital staff and other such professions. It is commonly referred to as "gallows humor" and comes from seeing the bottom rung of society and horrible things each and every day. I am not sure anyone has ever been able to show a direct correlation between these types of humor and actions on the job. That being said, telling a joke and being overheard was one thing. Social media has completely changed the game.

If I was a police chief, I would seriously look at telling my officers that it was policy to not have social media.

Ok. Go post some defamatory stuff about your company and let's forward it to your boss and see how it goes.

As a medical professional, no, this is not gallows humor.

The officers were posting defamatory stuff about their police force and the city?

So what you're saying is that it's not an issue, but you're going to make it an issue to push an agenda.

And to be quite honest, my boss would respond with "I don't give a frick."

He has a real hatred for crybabies.

I reject the rain but it still falls on my head whether I want it to or not. Not sure what to tell you.

The Philadelphia Police Department is set to hire an independent law firm to analyze the posts of each officer placed on administrative duty to see if the posts are constitutionally protected by the First Amendment’s guarantee of freedom of speech. If any of the posts are not protected by the First Amendment, the department will take action accordingly

Um their speech most definitely is protected by the 1st. That's not the question, though. The question is whether their speech breaks department rules and whether they can be disciplined for it.

That said, these cops are only posting what about 80% of America is thinking.

I take that as them crafting the excuse of why most of these officers will be back on the streets once this has blown over.

You may be a tad high on your percentages.

Being anti-muslim is being a good American...and this is not racism. Muslim is a cult/religion. Not a race or skin color.

I popped to the last post in this thread and this is what I see? Discouraging.

I suppose you also supported Japanese internment camps as well
