The 71% is referencing young people, presumably the current crop of high school graduates, entering the military. This is Gen Z (or iGen), not millennials. These kids were barely (or not even) born at the turn of the millennium.

Millennials are your 30 yr old male engineers who can't figure out how to change a tire or shut off their water, because they grew up entirely in the service economy and have never been anywhere without a phone.

Gen Z are the whiny current crop of college kids who would rather play on their phone than chase women or get driver's licenses, but it kinda makes sense, since the women are bat**** crazy on the other end of the campus protesting stuff anyway.

The stark shift in campus protests, outrage culture, "woke" etc... was the shift between millennials leaving school and Gen Z walking onto campus.

Not hard to believe, I see a lot of young folks with their heads buried in their cell phones, or they spend hours on end playing video games in their parents basement.
They are not getting out in the real world and getting valuable job skills.

Then you have those who end up with $100-200K in student loans pursuing useless degrees like women studies, black history, music appreciation, art, gender studies, basket weaving...

On top of that, there are apathetic parents who do not encourage nor exhort their children to acquire good job skills or many of the 'soft' skills that they will need to succeed in their careers.

AND then they wonder WHY their kids are living in their basements at 40 years old with no good job skills or job prospects.

Too many think they are above starting at the bottom and working their way up through the ranks. Many want a job starting out the $80K with all kinds of benefits, perks, and three weeks paid vacation.

I am not saying I am the 'perfect' example.
But I was mowing yards, raking leaves, worked on a farm, picked peas, corn etc.. cleared land when I was 7 years old.

I joined the military at 19, served our great nation and then went to college and earned a business degree.
I worked in retail and did other odd jobs throughout college to help pay for expenses.

Now here I am, years later and doing fairly well at what I do, and a young kid comes in and wants what I have and thinking that don't start at the bottom?

I have a good customer base that I have worked hard to establish over the years.

And some 'hot-shot' mommas boy thinks he is going knock me out of what I have worked hard over the years to accomplish?

I will help a young person out BUT no way in hades am I going to lay down or bow out because some little darling thinks they are entitled to a good living.

They have to earn it, just like I did.

The inability to pass a drug test plays a large role in this, too.

This storyline used to mention that (this has been around a while), but I guess the millennial writer was high and simply forgot.

This seams easy, sign a 5 year contract with year one being nothing but PT and keto. After year one , you’ll have a much more fit soldier .

I pursued a STEM degree. Never had a problem finding a job prior to graduating.

A lot of big companies will have a good, young employee do good work for them for a year or two, give them a low raise, then complain when they leave for a real raise

It's higher because a larger percentage take out huge student loans for worthless Humanities degrees these days. Fewer learning trades and taking STEM courses for highly profitable degrees. But as a poster said earlier, Millennials do seem to have a knack for creative new enterprises to support themselves. I admire how they have revolutionized craft beer and the legal MJ industry. It's the dawn of a new kind of society. A post-postmodern society. Psychedelics like Psilocybin recently being decriminalized in Denver is the first shot over the bow. These tools will accelerate spiritual development and evolution.

Once they start to produce if you dont pay fair market value then your stupid because you have to start all over....although I will say it is a delicate thing with all these damn millennials.....most of them will tell you they know their fair market vaule when in all actuality the "value" they have in mind is what they think they are worth not what the market dictates.

EDIT: The military thing sure has changed. The military used to be one of the places you could go when you fricked up and had a criminal record. Sometimes, the judge would make it easy and give you the choice of four years of service or ten years in jail.
