.most of them will tell you they know their fair market vaule when in all actuality the "value" they have in mind is what they think they are worth not what the market dictates.
If they leave you for a higher paying job it seems like they were right though

There are other factors in play....I had a guy leave a 75K a year job in Lafayette for a job in Boston at 100K....I saw a year later he took a job in Houston at 80K.....I'm guessing the 2500/month rent got to be too much even at 20K more per year.

The military thing sure has changed. The military used to be one of the places you could go when you fricked up and had a criminal record. Sometimes, the judge would make it easy and give you the choice of four years of service or ten years in jail.

My uncles told me that too. As a guess, I think the reason it shifted is because the military transitioned from being a "last resort" to a very viable career option. Its actually better to go military if you dont have a marketable degree or trade.

Think about it

* decent medical coverage

* different plans to reduce or pay for college.

* traveling the world.

* 2nd chance at a better life for those who didnt land a good career post college.

Probably alot more.

That's because companies are unwilling to train.

Why would I want to train you if you're just going to hop to another job 6 months after your hiring.

Partly because millennial will jump ship immediately after being trained. Usually for something weird. It's a huge problem in industries where experience is important.
So, let Scruffy see if he has this straight.

Businesses don’t want to train people because there is a possibility that they may switch jobs, so they decide to instead not train people and hope to pick up people who are already trained by businesses that don’t exist because no one is willing to train employees.

And they wonder why they can’t find employees.

That logic is circular and retarded.

I'm 25 and was hired at the same as a girl who was also in my age range. She called in sick her second day on the job and quit on the third. Typical of my generation.

Probably had a second interview and got an offer somewhere else. Happens all the time.

Nursing and truck driving are two of the largest and fastest growing careers. I'm technically ineligible for both because they require a special license.

You also can’t cut hair or sell flowers in Louisiana.

Maybe the company should ask itself why employees are jumping ship after 6 months if it is really a problem.

You can work in plants, finance, maritime, construction, offshore, etc.

Finance is the only one of these that would actually hire someone that’s already obese.

The obese folks that work these jobs weren’t obese when they were hired.

But you definitely missed a few.. sales, education, hospitality, IT, engineering, service, HR etc
