So if your car is registered in Bossier, but it's on blocks in your garage, you're still forced to carry insurance on it?

Only if you have a plate reader in your garage too.

I have some privacy problems with license plate scanners.

They are essentially tracking the targets every move without cause, warrant, or alleged crime. The fruits of that search to me are secondary.

I was in court this past Tuesday, 75% of the people in there had suspended licences, no insurance or expired registration.

One girl never has had a drivers license and was just driving around without plates or insurance.

They should lock these fricktards up.

Let one of those uninsured idiots run into your car and see if you still feel the same way after you end up having to pay for repairs out of your own pocket or having to eat your deductible for a wreck that was 100% caused by the other party.

There is a car insurance commercial that plays a lot.
On urban stations it's "I can't pay $150 a month for car insurance"
On rock stations it's I can't pay $400 a month.

Why? A lot of us hear that and wish we only paid $150 a month.

If your car shows up on one of the license readers, you probably have bigger problems.

If your car is registered anywhere in this state and you have a lapse n insurance you have to pay a penalty to reinstate your license. If you dont have insurance, you turn in your plates and are not supposed to drive the freaking car. It's not that difficult.

Technically, yes. You're supposed to turn in the plate to the DMV if the car is inoperable and you want to drop the insurance on it. Otherwise the DMV is going to fine you if their records reflect no insurance on a vehicle thats still registered and has a plate.

Much more to do with the legal system than it has to do with uninsured motorists

I'm glad someone does. The problem with every over-the-top government action is that they wisely make it where the victims of it aren't a big percentage of the population. Since most of us have insurance, the license plate readers aren't considered that big a deal. They'll come up with something else that only effects a percentage, and we'll be ok with it.

Then, they'll come up with something that effects us and we'll be pissed.

Traffic cams, license plate readers, drones - how intrusive does it have to be?

That is what uninsured coverage is for.

I've been hit by someone without insurance, and I still think license plate readers are a terrible idea.

Happened to my wife a few years ago. Girl ran a stop sign and t-boned my wife. Totaled her Honda CRV. Girl was uninsured in her twenties. We had to pay our deductible and it went against our insurance when it got totaled. Girl got multiple tickets and her car got impounded.

You can guess her ethnicity...

I have to purchase a product because other people don't follow the law. That is a shitty deal for the people buying coverage.

Again, I don't know how I feel about the cameras but I'd like to hear some more ideas on how to deal with the issue. I've heard the figure on uninsured motorist is close to, if not over, 25%. It is a big problem.

Regular uninsured motorist coverage is ONLY for injuries.

If you have "full coverage" and get hit by an uninsured driver, your collision coverage (and collision deductible) applies.

If you don't have collision coverage, you can buy "uninsured motorist property damage" that'll cover vehicle damage...but it still has a deductible, although normally only about $250
