Louisiana has some of the most expensive auto insurance premiums in the country, if not the highest. Experts say it's because a large number of those uninsured motorists are hitting the road every day.

quote:

It's a problem Bossier Parish officials are working to combat by using License plate readers that ticket people for driving without auto insurance.

quote:

Quanesha Green is one of 7,050 people who received a $200 ticket in the mail for driving without auto insurance.

"$200 of my hard earned money," Green said.

Green says price tag aside, she feels the ticket is targeting the wrong person.

"I don't see how if we're not driving the car, how can we get the ticket? Yes, it's my car, but if someone else is driving it, if you were to get pulled over that person would get the ticket regardless if it was my car or not," Green said.

quote:

"The law is, it's the responsibility of the owner of the car," said Bossier Parish District Attorney Schuyler Marvin. "The goal is if I gotta have liability coverage on my car, I'm going to make sure you do and everybody else that's driving on the road does.

All parishes should do this.

These people should get a ticket once a week until they comply. Also, the minimums need to be raised.

This has zero to do with insurance and 100% to do with revenue.

Bossier Parish is as close to a police state as a parish can be.

"but Bossier City is so safe." Not really - look at the scads of people arrested in the City and Parish in the Inquisitor.

License plate readers are pretty Orwellian, in my opinion.

While I agree that the revenue side is huge, there should be more done to combat uninsured motorist in our state.

If you can't afford state minimum liability, you shouldn't be driving.

This would probably be close to her 6 month premium anyway unless she's driving a BMW or something similar.

People are so worthless.

Most likely wrong unless it's an absolute beater. I drive a 2008 equinox and my premiums are basically $100 per month. It's an ok level of coverage.

So if your car is registered in Bossier, but it's on blocks in your garage, you're still forced to carry insurance on it?
