How very progressive of them.

In a major departure from other tourism-dependent destinations, more than 60 percent of Hawaiian residents indicated they don’t want visitors back on their islands. Covid worries? Yes. But the bigger fear is a return to overtourism. Can reforms happen without crushing the economy?
quote:
When destinations around the world began closing their borders last spring, Hawaii was the first U.S. state to ask tourists to postpone their vacations. The Aloha state then became first in imposing a strictly monitored two-week quarantine on anyone choosing to venture there amid Covid. The measure didn’t halt all mainland tourists at first, but over time, in part thanks to its isolated borders, it was effective in chilling tourism and flattening the Covid curve.
Despite reopening to the mainland last October, under a pre-flight testing program that eliminated most quarantine requirements, the late restart means the tourism dependent state continues to lag in recovery, with its unemployment rate among the highest in the U.S. at more than 10 percent as of November.

But in stark contrast to other tourism-starved places eager to welcome back tourists, tourism business owners and residents in Hawaii did something you would never expect: they pushed back on welcoming visitors to the islands. That surprising stance very well may signal a turning point for one of the world’s most popular destinations, which at times in recent years has been overwhelmed by overtourism.
A recent resident sentiment survey on behalf of the Hawaii Tourism Authority, of 1,709 residents on all islands statewide, revealed that nearly two-thirds or 65 percent of Hawaiians still don’t want people from outside the state to visit Hawaii.

Polynesians think they’re the master race apparently.

Good. Revoke their statehood.

I’m sure they’re fine with the Mexicans illegally crossing the southern border though.

90% of people living in HI aren't Americans, they're Phillipino, so they can go frick themselves

Hawaii unemployment at 10.1%, only behind NJ at 10.2%....idiots

Hawaiians are extremely racist, fact. Lived there for 4 years.

Hawaiians are terrible human beings for the most part. I wouldn't mind if they seceded and tried to make it on their own.
Funny, probably one third of the violent crime in Anchorage is committed by Hawaiians and Polynesians who came there for the meth trade.

How about we just stop shipping shite over to them then? Let them survive on the island alone! Let the island provide.

That’s interesting. I wonder how many of those 65% are people who are dependent on tourism (your bartenders, hotel maids) vs people who are retired there or have tourism-independent income

Hawaiian’s have always disliked us, not exactly breaking news

Their entire economy depends on tourism and US military. what clowns.

Two can play that game.
No more Bunkie, Louisiana for Hawaiians then.

Hawaii should never have been made a state

I can’t blame them. I feel the same. When I visited Hawaii, I wish there wasn’t any other people from out of state. Especially at the resort. I’ll allow the beach if she has big tits.

Most Hawaiians definitely fall under the “Island Trash” definition.

State struggling with poverty wants to get rid of their biggest business. Bold move cotton.

How many of those are rich retirees and not native and also not worried about income.

I empathize with them. I don't want a bunch of Yankees clogging up 65 for 7 months out of the year, either. Other Deep South baws are slightly more welcome.
