Generally, people aren't allowed to own large predators like cougars, black bears or timberwolves as pets and I don't see why known aggressive breeds of dog aren't treated the same. Unfortunately, the glut of pit bulls in need of homes are most likely to go to those too stupid to meet the level of responsibility and caution needed. I'm not sure how you fix that, but the start would be holding these owners responsible to the fullest extent of criminal law. If your dog kills someone, you are at least guilty of manslaughter unless they broke in or wandered onto your property.

This story continues to make less and less sense. One solid smack to the head with a crowbar would crush their skulls or destroy their jaw, or a hard shot to the back would paralyze them. What the hell were they doing with it?

Disgusting animals.

I have 4 dogs and they couldn't be bigger sweeter goofballs. These aren't domestic animals.

Not sure where you live but in Louisiana, If a dog is off the leash in a threat to you you are well within you legal right to kill it.

I've been in similar situations and I've got advice from lawyers, BRPD, EBSO and LSP as well as animal control.

Any animal not on a leash or confined to a fenced area can be killed if threatening injury to yourself or individuals you are in custody of (children who couldn't be expected to defend themselves) Doesn't have to be on your property can be in public access areas and the way the law was written outside of the fences area could still be in the owner's property. But obviously don't go onto people's property uninvited and kill their dog. But if you're a guest and have been invited and the dog attacks you.

Not sure if this has been amended or changed since I had my run in but people who think they can let their animals run free and no one can do anything about it are sadly mistaken.

Start here for sure. Also, I think a lot of homeowners policies exclude pit bulls, and our apartment building doesn't allow them and a few other breeds (even though some girl who weighs maybe 110 lbs has one...not sure how that snuck through). But that's a good start.

Other ways to eradicate them:
- Make it mandatory to spay/neuter
- Criminalize the breeding of them

ETA:

Found it

We accept all breeds of dogs except the following or any combination of mixed breed that contain any of the following: Akita, Alaskan Malamute, Chow, Doberman Pinscher, German Shepherd, Great Dane, Husky, Pit Bull Terriers*, Rottweiler, Saint Bernard & Wolf Dog Hybrids.

(including all Pit Bull breeds - American Pit Bull Terriers, American or Irish Staffordshire Terriers, Bull Terriers, Pit Bulls, American Bull Dogs & Presa Canario.)

Our building manager lives just down the hall from us and her man has a doberman that he always has here. Technically doesn't live here so skates by on that technicality, but she won't come anywhere near us when she has the dog and we've got ours because she knows she can't control it.

"A pit bull's bite force is around 235 pounds per square inch"

They meant to say they were averaging the bite force.

Exactly and I'm pretty sure with a pointed metal shovel, I could through and through one of those bastards.

Aren't you supposed to grab their back legs so they can't keep attacking? Pitts aren't that big so you could rag doll that thing until it quits moving. The cane corso should've gotten the bullet immediately

In addition to the dogs being put down so should the owners.

I have a story I am familiar with. My farm is in very rural Alabama. There are about 140 people who live within 6 miles. A neighbor has a guy who works for him who was an alcoholic for years but is now sober, but has had about 20 DUI's so he will never get a drivers license again. He walks about 2 miles from his trailer to the neighbors barn. He was walking one morning and 2 pit bulls attacked him, they were from a new guy who has just moved into the area. They almost killed him, he was in the hospitol for about 6 weeks. Had severe muscle damage on legs, arms and hands. Lost 2 fingers on one hand.

After he got well enough he was going to walk back to work again. When he got to where the dogs lived they both ran out to him again. Let me tell you that a pissed off man with a hatchet can do a lot of damage to a couple of dogs. He hit them both in the head killing them. Then he chopped off the legs and head. Cut the penis and nuts off and put them in that guys mailbox.

I heard that the blood in the road was about 20 feet in diameter. Looked like something out of a horror movie.

I fully, 100% support his actions.

My pit was fat as frick at 160. He’s slimmed down a good bit. I feel like that’s an exaggerated number.

This kinda of story just reinforces my preference for packing a pistol on my dog walks. I would rather not carry but two prior attacks on my dog and a seemingly endless supply of dumped dogs in my area don't really leave me much choice. It is absolutely a last resort and something that I would not use casually. I do also carry pepper spray and read dogs well enough to avoid issues by taking a detour or avoiding any interaction with sketchy dogs particularly of the pit variety. If an aggressive dog latches on to me or my dog and they will not disengage after a kick or a blast of pepper spray and their is no owner to intervene then I'm not going to end up being a meaty treat for some jack asses dog.
We have had a few dogs and people attacked in my neighborhood within the last year. I know this sounds like a trashy area but it is a nice neighborhood with average sized lots.
