Did you have the rental agreement with you? My experience has been that that will usually suffice. Been pulled over twice in rental cars. Once they gave me a car with an expired tag, other time they gave me a car with an Illinois tag on the front and a Louisiana one on the back. Each time when they asked for registration I told them it was a rental and they asked for the rental agreement.

So not only are cops assholes, revenue collectors for an ever-expanding government tyranny and proponents of the safety over Liberty ideology but they can't even take the time or effort to write legibly when they hand us a ticket to steal our labor.
