Yet we have people in here blaming public schools.
Yes, you cannot reach people who have no drive to learn, but that isn’t the only factor at play here.
50% of American adults cannot read at, or above, an 8th grade level.
That is a crisis.
Is it your implication that 50% of American adults actively did not want to learn and had abysmal parents at home?
If that is the case, just call it quits and blow up the entire system, because there is no fixing that.
If we can’t fix the concept of “people who don’t want to learn”, let’s address something we can fix…an abysmal school system.

No. You are mad that I didn't respond the way you wanted me to respond.
Nah, you just have to be the almighty authority on everything. It's ok. Some people just have to have that to feel better.

You are literally arguing with me about it.
No, you were upset that I didn't agree with you 100%. Like I said, we all understand you have to feel superior to everyone and you can't help it.

It is getting hard to have much confidence for the future though you never know what may transpire moving forward. I was at a 4th of July get together Monday and they were playing a game that asked different questions about various subjects and there were a couple people playing who work in accounting, one of which is about to complete a bachelor degree.
One of the questions was if you bought a product that cost 40 dollars originally at 25% off how much would you pay for it. Not a damn one of them knew the answer
I mean I'm just a pretty simple country boy and I knew right off the answer would be 30 bucks, it was a very simple math problem. It's rather worrisome really

The guy’s a troll. Any thread that has to do with race he’s right there. I wouldn’t waste your time engaging with someone with that username.

On these boards "demographics" means, "black people".
Just like "culture" means, "black people" as well.
inb4 denial.

Our education system is dominated by women. What do you expect.
I think it’s time we all admit that it’s time to bring back the patriarchy. Equality has failed.

It will be around 60 to 70% once all of the Zoomers come of age. It was pretty striking when I was still a school teacher.

Things like reading, math, science are being taught.
But when you have families who don’t give a frick about education their kids won’t either. Add to it that the parent has the power to do things like challenge a kid being held back due not mastering those subjects, it adds fuel to the fire.
Hard to blame the public school system when a kid has been passed to 8th grade on a 2nd grade reading level because a parent can challenge their kid being held back. No teacher can make up that much ground.
Liberals are too focused on not hurting a kid/parent's feelings and rejecting a merit based system.
Conservatives think every teacher is just like that one gender bending sex crazed teacher they saw on an episode of Tucker Carlson once. Meanwhile, normal everyday hard working teachers (who make up the vast majority) get left in the dust.

Race and ethnicity are one part of demographics, sure, but certainly not all of it.
And if one race or ethnicity is making up much of the illiteracy rate, wouldn’t that be a good metric to say “hey, there’s some serious issues with this population that need to be addressed,”
If you don’t identify the disease you can’t treat it and possibly cure it.
Obviously poverty will be a factor, but I’d like to see illiteracy rates between rural and urban areas.
If it was just poverty you should see correlation there.

Okay, assuming you're male, when are you getting your teaching certificate and going into the classroom? I mean, how are you expecting men to take over education if they aren't even willing to teach?
I always find it funny when people bitch and moan about things like this. It's like conservative bitching about the liberal media when all it takes is enough conservatives willing to go into Journalism to make it swing the other way. But you can never find any willing to do it themselves.

Correct. But they'll claim otherwise. See above.

Don't know about the adults, but I'd wager at least half of those current-student numbers are due to COVID protocols imposed on them.

and 80% of them post here

It's impossible to address a problem if you aren't willing to talk about where said problem exists.
ETA: Educators today are trying to push critical race theory garbage into every aspect of learning because black people don't succeed at the level of their peers. Why is it ok for them to acknowledge that reality, but not us?
