Amateur. It's still a 30 minute drive down 59 from Gulf Shores International Airport.

My pilot lands my Bell 222 right on top of the Phoenix IX and then we walk to our room.

Wait, yall go to Gulf Shores? LOL

The Phoenix? Like rental stuff?

Yeah, about that......

LA1 is baffling in another sense. It’s an industrial corridor like nothing else in this country. The Hyundai Steel facility and expansion of most other plants up and down the river have some leaders saying it will create 10,000 additional vehicles daily on LA1. It will be serviced by the same 60y/o infrastructure. Can you imagine that during grinding season?

You are getting hammered for this post but of course you are right. I’m in Europe right now. Amazing how easy to bounce from one country to another or efficiently move around huge cities like London
And to the “cities aren’t walkable crowd”, that would change quickly if rail showed up.
Or, here’s a novel idea, a rail service for cars? Drive onto the train and off you go…

That “extra lane” should be a train lane.

People with helicopters don’t stay at the Phoenix properties.

I was surprisingly floored when I once learned how I-10 in Katy,TX eliminated some rail line when it was expanded.

If this was any other part of the united states, the interstate would be 8 lanes.

There is no 300 mile stretch of interstate anywhere in the US with 8 continuous lanes. The I95 corridor between NYC and DC is probably the closest with at least 6 lanes, but that corridor also supports over 100 million people.

Will settle for a new Mobile bridge and deal with the rest.

It’s not perfect but it’s seasonal. Usually it’s your own damn fault for traveling in a holiday during busy season.

We went the week before the fourth and had zero issues. It’s all navigable. Totally avoidable if you know how to think ahead and not just “go with the flow” and have no sense of timelines.

Most of the time the only place I run in to problems is around Mobile.

Took 98 back through Pensacola and hopped on Hwy 90 all the way to Biloxi.
Ate Crablegs and lost 300 at Boomtown on triple diamond slot machine.
It was an adventurous day for sure!

So you took the long, scenic route, not sure what hte gripe is on I-10. Only issue that needs to be solved is the Mobile tunnel, unless you're coming from Texas then you have to deal with Baton Rouge.... and good luck on that ever getting fixed right.

It’s because they’re NPCs who react based on algorithms. It’s like that Family Guy skit where Lois is saying 9/11 and the audience goes back and forth with their response.

People act like we can’t figure this out, but adding more lanes has never fully remedied traffic congestion. It only builds more. Creating more public transportation opportunities (not just one rail) alleviates congestion from cars on the road.

Now think about why a densely populated area like Europe would be more successful with high speed rail.

It cannot and will not work in teh United States.

Completely false. Just one example, the I12 widening in St Tammany has provided monumental traffic relief. Traffic going west sucked arse prior to the additionally lanes being built.

I-75 through Georgia and Florida has them beat.

Thankfully there isn't a huge city on a par with Houston/Dallas/Atlanta along the stretch.

And in 10-20 years, we’ll have the same conversation.
