It's not objectively good or bad. There are advantages to renting vs. owning, and vice versa.

Correct

Why is renting bad?

Renters have missed one the best real estate investment markets in history.

Your primary residence is a money pit. After interest, taxes, insurance, and repairs you lose money.

Plowing all your disposable income into a primary residence is retarded.

Why is renting bad? You transfer all the repair and maintenance nonsense for a fixed price. Your monthly rent is the highest you will pay and that mortgage will be the lowest

Because you gain nothing. Like renting a car

After 11 years in my home I paid down the 30 year Mortgage $50k and I sold it for $93k more then I paid for it. Even after paying for a new oven, stove, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and new 4 ton condensing unit I still came out way way ahead then renting.

Owning a home is one of the best ways to build wealth and pride in something that’s yours. But our progressive overlords don’t want that. They need to enrich themselves off a dependent populace.

A fixed cost that can become variable at a moment’s notice

Our 2.5 acres outside of Austin has tripled in value over the past 15 years.

There's a lot to be said for excellent infrastructure, no state income tax, and not having to wake up a resident of Travis County.

Canada doesn't offer 30 year mortgages either. I believe most are 5 or 10 years and must be renewed. Can't remember the whole story, but remember my Canadian buddy talking about this.

You think property taxes and insurance on a home are fixed for the life of ownership?

You guys vastly UNDERestimate how much you are spending to own and maintain a property.

You can’t say I paid $100K and sold for $250k so I made $150K. Lmao.

I own a home but it was a lifestyle choice and not a wealth building move.

The only reason my arse would move to Canada would be if I was going to play in the NHL. I’ve never been ice skating before though.
