I know they keep saying only two dead, but in the pictures there are 3 bodies laying on the ground.

I know someone whos wife had the gastric bypass procedure done in Mexico years ago.
Outside of getting abducted/whacked by the cartels, this just seems like an idiotic gamble. The longterm complications that can arise from gastric bypass when it is done well by a good surgeon is high. Replacing that surgeon with some frick with little-to-no oversight and you're just living on hopes at that point.
No thanks, I think I'd just remain a fatass.

It sounded like there was a Mexican civilian caught in the crossfire too in the initial reports

Exactly. I’d want my doctor as close to me as possible should any post-op issues arise, not 1000s of miles away in a foreign country. It’s insane to me.

you'd be surprised at how many of those surgeons got their training at some of our best med schools/hospitals

Most stay for some length of time, depending on the procedure, for just this reason. I doubt the lady was going to ride all the way back to NC as soon as she woke up.
They make sure nothing major is going on, release them from the hospital or clinic, and have a post op consultation a few days or weeks later (again, depending on what kind of procedure the patient had), then they go home.

Great. You'll still be potentially thousands of miles away from them and likely have to deal with shoddy record keeping. I've seen too much bad shite go down with people who had that procedure done here, in the states. It 100% isn't worth the gamble. However, gastric bypass is rarely the best option for most people, anyway. With other, safer options now prevalent, I don't understand why it is still being used to the extent that it is.

That fat frick Charlie Weis, while an assistant for the Pats, had one that had complications. And someone making NFL coordinator money could likely afford the best docs for something like that.
Getting the Mexican equivalent of the Kirkland brand procedure just seems like a really dumb idea on several levels.

I'm just talking about medical procedures in general, the US doesn't have the world market cornered on state of the art medical treatment
Posted on 3/7/23 at 11:24 am to 777Tiger
Cornered? No. But most people who want shite done fast and right will fly here from across the world.

Dental work is a pretty common reason to travel to the Mexican border towns as well.

Seems like an awefully long way for 4 people to go for 1 to have a medical procedure. Here's a fb pic of 1 from Shaeed's account. I'm guessing there was more involved than a tummy tuck.

A good Mexican friend of mine from Matamoros that lives in Brownsville now crosses on a weekly basis to visit family told me that the cartel is always looking for rival threats as you cross. He said he always sees randoms on a two-way walkie identifying suspicious cars as they cross. Good chance as others have stated that these people were mistakenly identified as threats.

So, honest question. As an American hypothetically wanting to have a tummy tuck or any procedure really, how do you know which doctors are legit/good or not? Google? Yelp? Tripadvisor?
Reviews.
Instagrams pics and videos of work.
I see IG models all the time going to Mexico/Colombia/DR for bbls, tummy tucks, rhinoplasty, vaneers.
