I can see this working. Most people in their 9-5 can probably get most of their work done in 1-3 hours

I'd actually be a bigger fan of keeping the 5 day work week but cutting the day from 8 hours down to 6 hours. I'd love to work 8-2 without a lunch break and then head home for the day instead of working 8-5 with an hour lunch break.

The same amount of work would get done, but a longer evening at home would be awesome.

I would be all for this, but you can’t close the doors on the extra day off. I would try to schedule rotataing days for employees where you will still work 4 but the extra day off falls on a random day.

Totally agree. Half the employees work M-TH, the other work Tue-Friday. I don't even need us to go to 32 hours. I'll take four 10 hour days over five 8 hour days.

The Chads of the workplace would work that 5th day, steal your bonus and get promoted ahead of you.

I don't need to be in the office 40 hours a week to do my job, but I do need to be available Monday through Friday.

Most companies have already implemented this. It's not their fault the employees choose to spend their Friday off at the office hanging out with their work friends

A growing number of people are working from home to avoid traffic etc. I have offered many times to my higher ups that half of our office should work Monday through Thursday and the other half Tuesday through Friday. 10 hour days.

Everyone seems so much more productive after a three day weekend. But, the higher ups are so stuck on the normal workday.

“Supervisors said staff were more creative, their attendance was better, they were on time, and they didn’t leave early or take long breaks,” Mr. Haar said. “Their actual job performance didn’t change when doing it over four days instead of five.”

So the job performance were the exact same, even when they would leave work early, take long breaks and missed days?

Sounds like they were actually more productive when working 5 days and got less done in 4 days.

I have three employees, I pay them a flat 40 plus some bonus pay. Rarely do they work more than 32 hours a week, many times less. They have a set amount of scheduled stops, you give a guy some incentive it is amazing how much work he gets done.

This makes zero sense.

Didn’t they just pay them an increased amount for four days?

They paid them for four days of work and just increased their hourly wage.

Plenty of schools moved to a 4 day week and while they showed an early increase in grades and productivity it eventually leveled off and became worse. These school districts ended up going back to a 5 day school week because they did not see the positive in the 4 day week.

What doesn't make sense is that you don't realize how stupid you are.

The study said there was no improvement of actual work. When they worked 4 days, they didn't come in late, didn't leave early, didn't miss work, didn't slack off, and yet surprisingly, didn't improve their actual work.

Do you see? Or must I go on to step 2 of ELI5?
