Same. I must’ve been in Kindergarten but I swear I remember being in first grade and we even had a man from nasa (Michoud) come speak to us about it, bc he was a family member of the teacher or something like that. I have this memory but the date does not match.
So I don’t even know.
Same. I was in kindergarten, so I’m sure weren’t watching it. I had an older sister at the school. I’m guessing my memories are remembering her and others talking about it, and seeing it on TV when my parents watched the news. Very weird. I would’ve sworn it happened when I was in like 2nd grade, based on my crappy memory.

1st grade class at Jefferson Terrace Elementary. I was fortunate enough to have seen a shuttle launch in-person two months prior (STS-61 B) and knew when Challenger exploded that it was wrong what had happened. For a lot of the teachers and students, I don’t think it immediately registered what had happened for some reason. I can vaguely remember watching President Reagan’s speech that night.
I also remember watching launch of the “return to flight” mission (STS-26) two years later in class at Buchanan Elementary.

My senior year of high school. We returned from lunch and my physics teacher said she had awful news. One of my classmates said, “what, did the space shuttle blow up?” He had no idea.

Sitting in my living room watching it live. Preparing to move from Mandeville to So. Georgia. My wife was at Stennis Center with her 2nd grade class field trip. Needless to say, that go as planned!

At my parents house farting off before going off to college, walking in front of the Living Room television thinking how awful if that thing ever actually blew up on live television like other rockets had done back in the old days. And when it actually did do just that, I was floored, and actually felt bad I had that thought pop in my head just moments earlier.
