First thing I thought of when I heard this story.

I wonder if any of the patrons had a wallet with "Bad Mother fricker" written on it.

The police have their issues, but this is a ridiculous criticism.

Inspection sticker checkpoints? Sure, they are ludicrous.

DWI checkpoints? I've got absolutely no problem with that practice.

Carry on.

Yup

but how would one go about this? I try to take out one guy, but the other guy is pointing a gun at others robbing them. I kill one and the other guy starts shooting.

Not even close. I've been looking into buying a gun, and the first thing all the responsible gun owners I've talked to have relayed to me is if you aren't going to make the situation better, you don't pull.

They had the place under complete control, had 3 individuals, and were apparently well known to eachother. Pulling in that situation would put you in a 3 on 1 with innocent bystanders everwhere and they had all of the advantages. Also, most gun owners do not train in high intensity situations, so there's a solid chance with that much adrenaline pumping, you couldn't hit the backside of a barn.

There are three robbers with guns storming into a restaurant with over 20 freaked out people in it. You really want someone else with a gun to pull another one out and try to shoot three people?

This really makes my blood boil - I called and left a VM at the Mayor's number calling them dumbasses and telling them to take the $2MM for removing the historic statues and use it to hire police officers

Agreed - a renegade concealed carrier would have almost assuredly made the situation worse.

thugs like these would be less willing to rob 20+ people if they thought there was multiple people with guns inside. But yes I admit you can't shoot 3 people at once. this isn't call of duty

People don't realize how few cars there were. One morning last week, there was a 6 hour period where there were three total units in the 3rd district. One Lieutenant, one sergeant (who had converted himself to a street unit), and one officer in a car. 48 calls backlogged, many of them code 2's. This is routine now.

This.

Plus the NOPD was already responding to a carjacking and an armed robbery (both uptown) in the same 10-15 minute window in which the Patois robbery was occurring.
