Turbo S is a bit heavy, AWD and all those options add up.
They are baaaad though.

They making up for something or it's where they can afford it? I say both
I don't think most of these buyers are making up for anything or trying to relive some lost youth/ attract women. One reaches the age when they begin to face their mortality & realize that they can't take this money with them. Whether it be an RV, sports car , Summer in Europe/ South America,etc.....or anything else they always wanted to buy/ do.

Manual transmissions are fun. DCTs and modern autos are much faster in any kind of competitive setting. Clearly the "old white men" know something you don't.
99% of these cars aren't driven in a "competitive setting". Most are babied low mileage "garage queens" & street crusisers so why not have " fun" instead of worrying about one car shifting fractions of a second quicker? You can't push these cars to their limits on the streets & most don't have the skills anyway.
You could potentially lose your license, freedom or endanger the lives of others. Jay Leno has always lamented the fact that you can't really push these high powered machines on the streets & enjoys his " slower" cars more on the street.
So your car can go 0-100 in 6.7 seconds & mine in 6.9/7.0 in a manual. Good for you "Grandpa"( age of average buyer) go ahead & thump your chest......but I'm not driving that fast on the streets anyway.

With 60 year old white males, who'll only drive it with an automatic transmission. As always.
As opposed to younger people who would DEFINITELY drive an automatic. The older people are the ones that drive manuals. This thing is probably going to be a paddle shifter anyway.

I like a fast car, I always have.
A fast car, driven with some attention, can save your arse on public roads more often than on the track.
One of the prime considerations for my wife's latest vehicle, besides safety, was 0-60 speed. This power is extremely useful for passing and accident avoidance, both handy attributes in a street car.
People don't understand that the right pedal can be as much benefit as the left pedal.

I thought the rumors were 3300-3400 lbs for the vette?
A turboS is pushing 3600 these days and that's the 991.2s. The 992s will be even heavier.
You are getting suckered... a lot of people didn't notice that GM put out the dry weight for the C8 not the curb weight.
My 991.1 tipped the scales at a tick under 3500 which was significantly heavier than the 997 I had before it.

because almost no one buys manuals anymore
You're preaching to the choir about the intangible benefits of a manual transmission, but GM isn't going to waste R&D dollars on an inferior transmission with limited sales potential, and I don't blame them.
DCTs are the way of the *present and future for performance cars. People that piss and moan about the loss of the manual transmission are the modern day equivalent of the fools who were upset about the shift to EFI over carburetors.

Not to mention options. If I had to guess, a vette optioned like I want would probably be 75-80k. Will be interesting to see when they release the full configurator with pricing.

You can still order them from many dealers for MSRP.
The Mustang GT500, with only 5000 available, will more than likely have an ADM. Allocations will be tight and 5000 cars isn't many to share with all the Ford dealers.

I have no doubt it’ll be a smashing hit in the “late 50’s/early 60’s, divorced, 2 kids who child support payments just ended, trying waaay too hard to impress a busted 40 year old something with bolt on’s / this is not a mid life crisis and yeah so what I dipped into my 401k a bit early, what’s the big deal?” market

Doesn’t even look like a vette anymore. Just a generic Euro-style super car now.

Nah...not even close. The difference between a manual and an automatic is much more integral to the driving experience. I've driven sports cars since high school, and my first manual was a '84 300ZX Turbo in my senior year. Every sports car I've had since then has been a manual.
The only time I ever really considered a paddle-shifting automatic was when I traded in my '09 911 on a '15 Vette. I had great deals worked out on a 2LT auto in Texas and a 1LT manual in Georgia. I've been a stat-heavy guy since my early years. When my brother and I were in our early teens we could both quote you the 0-60 times on all of the relevant sports cars. On the '15 Vette, the 0-60 time was 3.8 for the auto vs. 4.0 for the manual, and I didn't know if I could "sacrifice" that 0.2
Regarding the popularity of Vettes in the demographic of people who can afford them and who don't need more than a 2-seater, about the only real comp in its class is the Cayman. And they are just 2 different driving experiences. Even compared to my 911, the Vette just has so much more raw power. Not that the Porsche wasn't fun to drive, but the power of that big V8 was just made it feel like something was missing with the 911 (the current 911 has more horsepower than my '09 did, but that's a different price class). And I was faster in my Vette on the track than I was in my 911. I would venture to say that the overwhelming majority of people knocking the Corvette have never owned or even driven a Corvette before. Its performance can't be beat for the price.

What is absolutely hilarious to me is that this age group probably has the highest percentage of drivers who know how to drive a stick.
You’re a fool.

When I heard them say 3366 pounds in the reveal I got a little "hard". It is a bigger car than almost all the MR platform cars and they did it with aluminum vs tons of CF. Then with followup reading, I saw it was dry weight and realized curb weight would be more like 3600. That is what 150 pounds more than the C7? They will be lighter than the R8 and NSX but they are laden with batteries and electric motors. In the end, it is no ballerina but starting at $60k what can you expect.
I am still wondering what the average sticker will be for this first batch. I would order it with the LT3 trim and Z51 package which I am guessing would be ~75k, still a booming bargain even if the interior is not "Porsche quality". I know it appears nice but in one of the videos on youtube, there is a big miss on the stitching visible from the passenger side.
ETA found the video if the link doesn't go to 7:17 like ti should look there at the stitching between the passenger dash and the panel that houses the long row of buttons. Hopefully, this is a pre-production issue.

That's the one making the rounds right now. Pretty sure that car was just one step above a test mule. I wouldn't expect to see that in a production car.
Agree that LT3/Z51/Front axle lift is at least $75K. That will probably be more that typical price of the car.
