why doesn't it have the quality of a Porsche or Ferrari?

Having owned a 911, I think the drop off in quality, fit, finish, etc. compared to the Vette is highly overrated. 5-10 years down the line the difference may be significant, but I think most owners in that price class don’t really keep cars that long - and those that do generally pamper them (e.g., the guy who buys the Vette he has dreamed of and saved for all his life). I’m on my 6th car in the past 9 years. I generally don’t keep them long enough to see any issues.

I was joking of course. Having said all of that about how well the plane doesn't really glide, the thrust and top speed was something most of its pilots appreciated. And, it was rugged and took more damage and still get home than one would expect of a high-performance aircraft of that era.

Corvette has a pretty strong record at Le Mans. :shrugs:

I was joking about the foreign cars, as I thought you were.

The C6, and especially the C7, interiors were much better than previous gens.

Certainly not Porsche-level, but at the price point, they were pretty good.

Yeah I bought a new Expedition Monday and I can honestly say I was floored at tbe sticker prices on new trucks. There was a F350 on there lot that stickered for 95k! Thats fricking insane.

Exactly. I've got a 2008 F450 dually (yes, i tow a lot of things with it) with 135K miles on it and it runs like a champ. Plan to paint it next year and keep it for the foreseeable future. Bought it in 2009 with 33k miles for $34,500. Absolutely will not part with it to purchase damn near the same truck that stickers for nearly as much as my first home.

It is not that much of a stretch to suggest that some light trucks are, essentially, 6-figure vehicles in 2019.

Even well-optioned half tons can flirt with $60k when you factor in TTL.

And a loyal local following in France of all places.

The first time I saw a part of a LeMans race, the yellow C5 Vettes were leading their class towards the end. There was maybe two light bulbs working between the two cars. Their rotors were glowing from the heat, the drivers were exhausted. The distinctly "American" V8 growl they made at full throttle was just awesome and unique from all the European cars.

fricking awesome. After that exposure, I loved the Corvette.

That's America's sports car, and it's awesome. The C8 looks like a game changer too.

Bucket list item for me.

I was talking with Davy Jones and he said one of the coolest things was being in the race and driving by the people cooking breakfast. He couldn't look at them of course, but he said the bacon and eggs smelled delicious.

There are some podcasts on the team from 2000-2005. I'll try to post it if I find it.

I was in Houston for the 2001 Grand Prix, one of the races featured Corvettes, Porsches and BMWs.
When the Corvettes passed by it shook your bones. I loved it.

I love watching the Jeremy corvertte top gear episodes

"The steering wheel is on the wrong side, the gearbox was taken out of a tractor, the noise is deafening..."

"I have 80 more horsepower than a ferrarri enzo, and because the corvette is made from plastic it is lighter as well"

2020 Corvette C8 breaks records, nearly crashes Chevrolet’s online build configurator

CNET

When the digital dust settled, the 2020 Chevy Corvette had set a number of impressive online records for GM. In the main, 471,000 people tuned in to watch the livestream unveil of the Corvette -- an impressive figure given that the event was held midevening on the West Coast (a good portion of the event happened after much of the country had already gone to bed).

quote:

But Corvette fever didn't stop there. Friday, July 19, the first full day after the C8's debut, saw the C8 shatter Chevrolet.com traffic records, too. According to Steve Majoros, director of passenger car and crossover marketing for Chevrolet, the brand's consumer site saw five times the normal traffic load it hosts on a daily basis. Corvette-related traffic set an all-time record for Chevy's website, even with the slowdown.

"With a pretty rabid and passionate base, we knew we'd take 24 hours of grief," Majoros tells Roadshow. "The majority of people got the full [configurator] experience, which is the full 3D experience. We do have a way that the system throttles to what we're calling a 2D experience [to speed load time]. Once we hit thresholds, we worked with Amazon Web Services very quickly to double our server capacity." (GM may have outsourced its server support for things like 3D rendering, but it built the C8's configurator tool internally, a move that helped keep a lid on information leaking out about the top-secret car.)
