I had a good black friend that was a star ball player at Baylor. In fact he won the ncaa award for most rebounds in 1994. He had a 8 inch frat letter burnt into his arm with a coat hanger.

The scar was horrific and I'd never seen that at one of the white frats. I asked him about it and he said they would basically get alcohol poisoning and they would do the branding when they passed out. He didn't even wake up.

Is it racist to ban a southern fraternity?

Seems like that’s a line that can not be crossed

Yes. A woman died in a contest to see who could drink the most water in order to win a Wii. Anything can kill you if you take to much of it.

Somehow I think this is going to take an uglier turn for Q Dawg. 20 year old pledges don’t just drop dead.

Standing in line? The journalist and editor deserve to be fired for putting that kind of nonsense in an article describing a hazing death.

The black fraternities do magnitudes of order of hazing greater than white fraternities. But somehow colleges look the other way. Wonder why?
Do the death/hospitalization stats back up this claim?

C'mon, Bruh. If they don't die or aren't hospitalized, it's not hazing?

Southern has released a statement, although with careful wording.
quote:

Southern University and A&M College is aware of an off-campus incident that may have resulted in the death of student Caleb Wilson, a junior from New Orleans majoring in mechanical engineering. The campus community extends condolences to his family, classmates and loved ones. Southern is cooperating fully with the Baton Rouge Police Department, which is in charge of the investigation. No further information is available at this time. Counseling services are available for Southern University students, faculty and staff. Resources can be found at subr.edu/ucc.

Omega Psi Phi?

35 years ago those guys were hardcore...almost brutal.

A lot of football players used to belong.

I miss the DKE's . When they got into trouble at least there was something funny bordering on the outrageous

I've known a few guys in this fraternity, and they take this shite very seriously.

That sounds like hazing... but it isn't included on the preeminent list of hazing deaths. I'll take your word for it that it happened though.

The black frat initiations are insane. Had some teammates in college that were Alpha Phi Alpha and the shite they told me they went through to get in was nuts.

Yea this is pretty common. You’ll see a ton of NFL players with a horshoe’s branded on them.

That looks gayer than Andy Dick with a fist of crystal meth shoved up his arse.

It happened in the late 80s. I don’t know why it’s not on that list except that the university had very different relationships with fraternities then and my family didn’t sue LSU or the fraternity. My aunt was heartbroken, obviously, but thought the students didn’t understand the danger of what they were doing. Even in this thread, there are people who don’t understand water intoxication can lead to death.

How do people not know this is a thing? It has happened multiple times, and I remember another incident where a woman died from the same thing competing in some radio station contest.

I’ve had a brush with it myself. Dallas tennis playoffs in July have a court heat index of 120°+. I was gulping water to stay hydrated but didn’t also replace electrolytes. Brain became very foggy and I was lethargic. The only reason I recognized what was happening was bc of my cousin’s death.

I have a really good friend I grew up with that wanted to rush a one of the black fraternities. According to him, they told him to wait to join because he was kind of a skinny guy and inferred that he needed to put weight on. We both assumed that meant they were going to beat his arse as a pledge, and they were.
