How do the cops continue to harass these guys and violate their rights after being sued and losing 1000x? Why does the general public lose their minds when someone is filming in public? There are generally cameras EVERYWHERE. Especially in public places. These guys can be annoying but if LEOs and idiots would leave them alone they would eventually go away.

It is often hard to leave someone alone when their entire mission is to get under your skin.

A case in point is trolls on the internet, leave them alone and they leave. How often does that happen?

Most of those guys literally mind their own business, don’t talk to anyone, and idiots come up to them.

Municipal governments are starting to pass ordinances to combat these folks. They are designating free speech areas in public buildings and off limit areas.

Most mind their own business but some are shite stirring to get a lawsuit.

Because they're not the ones that pay.

Get rid of qualified immunity and watch it change overnight.

There's two types of these auditors. Ones out there who literally do nothing against the law and are approached by law enforcement and have their rights violated and use the encounter to teach LEOs. I support and enjoy watching their content. Then there's a group a huge assholes who antagonize, bait, and name-call and they're more about getting zinger insults in than doing any educating. They come off a pretty scummy, although within their rights to do what they do. I just hate their approach.

Because the general public and police have no idea what the 1st Amendment allows them to do. The auditors prey on this behavior and reap the rewards from Youtube.

In general. They wouldn’t be an issue if people minded their business when it doesn’t involve them and no laws being broken. I understand that cops have to make contact on calls but if they accepted the law and applied it, these interactions would consist of observing and maybe asking a question before moving along

One of my biggest issues with cops is their insistent need to run IDs. They get so fricking bent out of shape when told no..

I can see both sides of the coin. What if it's not a 1st amendment auditor but a pedophile taking pics and videos of young kids? Or a 1st amendment auditor using his 'job' as a cover for his pedophilia? I can also see a parent being upset if this middle aged dude is walking around filming and taking pictures of your kids to try and instigate you calling the cops on him. The overreacting cops and the 'auditor' are both POS, but I can at least understand how it happens as it's creepy AF. The 'auditor' is doing it to either sue and collect their 'income' or to collect pics and videos of unsuspecting children and women.

Never really understood either side of the equation, but police shouldn't be concerned with anyone simply recording. If they're obstructing, that's another thing. May be a good way to weed out officers who are just on a power trip though.

There's no privacy in public. You may not have someone directly taking you or your child's photos but a simple stroll downtown will get you snapped a hundred times by security and other types of cameras. How do you know someone isnt somewhere beating off to that footage?

If you can't stomach the thought of your picture being taken in public for who knows what, stay home.

The Amagansett press guy gets on my nerves sometimes because he can be cool at times and other times he uses lil digs/insult type comments to rile up people or the cops. When the bad cops act up first I'm with him ,they should learn a lesson but don't antagonize them to force it

I am not sure about all of the general public losing their minds, but too often the ones filming are the ones inflaming a situation or instigating it completely to get a reaction for which they then pull out a phone leaving out many their words or actions (especially on what’s uploaded). They are not usually trying to have meaning discourse or discussions to resolve the situation or help a person in need. They can also put camera in face of people at times. They want video to go viral on social media more than anything.

In general when videos of regular citizens are monetized including being uploaded by a monetized profile I think they should have get signed releases of the people in the videos or blur them out or pay them for the use of their name, image, and/or likeness to make money.

This. Its not against the law to exist in public with or without a camera, walk at night, eat lunch in your car, etc. Officers can observe and can ask questions.

Your job is not IDing people. We have a 4th amendment right to refuse if you ask for id for no other reason than to curb your suspicion. We have 5th and 1st amenedment rights to not answer your questions and to tell you to kick rocks.

Reasonable articulable suspicion of a crime. A crime. CRIme. This is not hard to understand unless you are part of the thin blue ego gang. I applaud the auditors for thier work in this regard. Its long overdue.

I doubt the cops care, they can do literally whatever they want and not get fired. And I'm generally pro law enforcement.

We live in a privileged society when people are afraid of cameras.
