Do you think Frank Morris and brothers John and Clarence Anglin made it to shore, or did they drown in San Francisco Bay?

Clint is still alive, so yes.

Off the island? Sure.
Out of the water? Nope.

I've been to Alcatraz, doesn't look like that great a distance.
They made it.
They made it.

I think so.

A new photo has surfaced that allegedly proves Alcatraz inmates John and Clarence Anglin didn't die during their infamous 1962 escape and actually survived--but the lone official investigator still assigned to this case isn't convinced.
"I can't say yes or no on it," U.S. Marshal Michael Dyke, based in Oakland, said in an interview. "I've seen the picture. I'm doing analysis on the photo as we speak and having the FBI look at it. The important thing is to not draw any conclusions as it hasn't been vetted through regular investigative channels."

If I remember the story right, the family would get cards for Christmas, Mother's Day, birthdays etc. from S. America that they swear bore the handwriting of the brothers that escaped.
It's been many years since I saw the show about this, but I do remember that pic being on the show that the family was claiming proof they did make it.

Felt the same way after visiting.

Yep.Think the officials did what they could to cover it up.

The 3 guys are all almost certainly dead by now. The main evidence that they lived is a 2013 note where a guy claimed that all 3 of the escapees made it, he was one of the escapees, the other 2 escapees had died in 2005 and 2008, and he himself was about to die and seemingly wanted the free healthcare of prison in his final days. If the last guy was already on the verge of death in 2013, he’s almost certainly long dead by now.
Still, escaping from Alcatraz in 1962 and living as free man until 2005, 2008 and 2013 or 2014 is quite an achievement.

Of course not. Think they would have made it then remained silent about the escape or not been picked up for another crime?

Been to Alcatraz a few times, I feel like they probably made it.
But common sense tells me someone would have spoken. I find it hard for them to conceal identity and live under the radar for all these years. Or not have spilled the beans to someone that would have spoken up.

Local trivia, but Frank Morris was in prison for a bank robbery in Slidell.

It’s fun to believe they made it, but the reality is they would have been found out by now. These weren’t the brightest humans with millions of dollars on the outside. At some point they would have screwed up and been found. If Whitey Bulger with all his connections was found these 3 guys would have been.

These guys were nowhere on the level of Bulger in the criminal world. They were low level bank robbers and wound up in Alcatraz after they tried to escape other prisons after they were sentenced.
Bulger was the head of the Winterhill gang in Boston, had multiple murders under his belt, ran a huge criminal operation that included drug running, selling arms to the IRA, murder, extortion, etc.
He wasn't on the FBI Most Wanted List for small time crimes.

I have a couple of buddies that did the escape from Alcatraz triathlon. That water is freezing. Also the triathlon is always held when the currents aren’t a strong and my buddies still had to fight to stay on course. I know the escapees built makeshift rafts, but it something happened to the rafts, I doubt that they made it.

I thought they found the raft they used downstream on the bank. And someone picked them up in a car if I recall. I think they made it to South America. Much easier to go undetected in the 60s than now.

it's only 1.5 miles, and they have multiple swim races annually
