When I was about 14 my old man took us to that island, showed me and my brother Al Capone's cell, and looked at us to say, "My sons, this is how you know that Justice reigns supreme in our great country."

Thanks Dad

Logic says no way. It would have been a long shot even in favorable conditions. The only way I say yes is if they had some sort of outside help.

Nope. You ever swim in 51 degree water with a huge undertow and swells?

Idk what yea it was. Definitely in the 60’s my grandpa actually took a tour of the island as an army general. I think they had a satellite base there. It was not a noteworthy trip but the man detested criminals so there’s that.

No. They would have gotten in trouble again later in life. No way one or all of them disappear and never get arrested again. .

I think it’s entirely possible the Anglin brothers made it. I think Morris didn’t.

It’s amazing how many criminals from all over the world throughout history have been able to escape to South America and live for decades undetected.

Frank Morris had a near genius IQ.
That being said, although it does not look as hard to make it through the water in terms of distance. It's not as easy as one might think. The currents are such that you have to be a really strong swimmer and or paddler just to make Angel Island. Then to make it from there they would need coordinated outside help. Neither Morris or the Anglin brothers were that kind of connected.

They ended up with DB cooper and Hoffa level mystic.

No one will ever really know about any of them unless somehow bodies with DNA are uncovered one day

I don't think they made it. Hell I worked with a guy that robbed an old lady and stole her truck in Mobile. He made it to Lake Pontchartrain but there was a wreck and he ran out of gas so dip shite jumped off the bridge . Found him dead as a doornail the next day

I've been to Alcatraz, doesn't look like that great a distance. They made it.

I honestly don’t know how anyone could say that. I went last summer in June and the ferry had the Heater going. It was windy and cold. We saw some whales from Alcatraz and the current was absolutely ripping.

The water temp avg as said is like 50s. People swim but in wet suits.

As said already, 3 criminals with multiple charges each. There’s like 0% chance none of those guys speak or get arrested again.

3 white criminals in South America, same thing probably get arrested again.

ETA: water temps in the 50s can give you hypothermia in 15-20 mins. The guys didn’t have wetsuits which would also help you float and ride the current if they helped.

Back then you could get a new identity easily if you knew how. I'd like to think they were just the first to not commit any more serious crimes and lived in the Pacific Northwest maybe somewhere rural

The last time I read up on it, some have made the swim and others say it's impossible! Ha didn't the myth busters do it with the same stuff?

It’s more difficult to convince me they didn’t make it. Nothing was ever found.

Then, the whole extension cord to the ferry, followed by a white boat being seen - makes sense.
