I was in OB about a month ago and from the condo balcony we watched as a three-foot shark swam right next to the shore for about 100 yards, often swimming between people standing on shore and talking to people standing in knee-deep water. It was kind of funny to watch people spot it and to watch some kids see it and follow it (on shore) as it cruised down the beach. It didn't bite or hurt anyone. It seemed totally uninterested in people. It's the ocean. It's where they live.

Upon looking at the photos, I don’t think OMLandshark was correct in comparing this shark bite to a wasp sting.

Sharks don't go "looking" to kill people.

At the same time, don't be a fricking idiot and go out into open water with nobody looking for a Great White.

Well this is not a boat accident! It wasn't any propeller! It wasn't any coral reef! And it wasn't Jack the Ripper!

I wonder if they performed a half-assed autopsy and spilled the little Olson kid out on the beach.

That’s a perfect bite to be able to tell people you’ve been bit by a shark, I’m almost jealous
