My daughter was just diagnosed with BPD. She is extremely manipulative, dishonest, and destructive. She has threatened to commit suicide 4 times in the past year and been hospitalized each time. She made up a story about her mother stranguling/abusing her and reported it to the miltary, which nearly ended her mother's career via court martial.

She seems to lack any empathy whatsoever. She threatened to murder her 1 year old baby sister and set a cardboard box on fire in my house.

Has anyone had any experience dealing with something like this? We are seemingly running out of options. I have tried to communicate with her from every angle and tried multiple ways of discipling her, but nothing works. I have prayed over her, medicated her, but it only gets worse and worse.

Damn I need a drink. I have a 9 month old and this is giving me chills.

I have no advice but wish you the best of luck. Someone here can probably point you in the right direction.

First things, first, I'm sorry you're dealing with this.

With that said, tigerdroppings is great for a lot of things, but I'm not sure this is the right venue for this type of advice. There are probably specialty forums with families going through this, along with support resources.

Sorry, bro. My sister is bipolar and we are going through similar things. I'd recommend a psychiatrist and maybe even a separate therapist.

There's a thing called DBT that is supposed to be the treatment for it. But she has to participate.

Sorry to hear that. My son is BiPolar. Not quite to the extent of your daughter. Mental issues are so frustrating to deal with.

Didn't graduate High School but did graduate from LSU. Also got a Masters degree and will be married soon. So there's hope.

Gotta get the right balance of meds, psychiatric treatment and life style changes.

I was going to jokingly say you need a priest and an exorcist... but in truth, there are some serious psychological disorders out there. Have you looked into long term facilities for her? Maybe a stay away for longer than a 72 hour eval could help.

Doesn't Paige have BPD? I may totally be misremembering that.

Tough situation, but I can tell you what won't work. Prayer.

Medication and serious therapy with mental health professionals is what she needs. I have a niece with bipolar disorder and it took a while to find the right mix of meds, but once they did she got much better.

Do some serious research on the best doctors and therapists in your area and spare no expense. She won't get better on her own and there is not much you can personally do.

The fire setting makes this interesting

You may want to have her tested for anti social/psychopathy behavior

Get her committed asap. I know that’s now what a parent wants to do but you nor the mom can treat her the way a hospital will. Also, protecting the other child in the house. It sucks but it’s better than any alternative.

I'm saying a prayer for you, but you have to say one for me in return. I have a 32 year old with BPD and acute anxiety who lives at home with us. We've been where you are. It has been a rough go, but we survived so far, and you can too.
