This Article (PC Gamer) explains a little better why this happens.

Since North Korea is under sanctions, they are using proxies in the US to get hired. The money from the work is sent back to N Korea to help fund their weapons programs.

Why even mention this?

Why do we find out how criminals work and then tell them how we found it?

People working unbeknownst in North Korea??? Requiring people to physically report to work would reduce this sort of thing overnight.

Groundbreaking. Revolutionary….Yes, I know.

we've had many examples of a guy showing up to work farming his work out to Indians overseas

anyway we can catch them so why make everyone else suffer?

Because they can't fake physics so it doesn't matter that they know that we know. They already knew.

It's similar to working from home, except in North Korea it's called Working from Gulag(wfg).

I'd consider also firing the dude for typing like that. That post was a pain to read.

Was it hard to sniff out? Was there a policy against it? I’m just curious. I’m not in IT or anything that could do that.

This guy definitely could've been using stolen documentation or faked "authentic" documentation provided by Ch-ch-ch-China

Definitely against policy but was only caught because our manager called his number for an issue and someone totally different answered the phone. Afterwards everyone needed to be on camera for our team huddles

I saw a story like this on the news not too long ago. NK finds a mule that will pick up and deliver packages with no questions asked.
