Salmon I will definitely admit that im an exception and not the rule.

I have a legit fear of being poor.

Each way? Ya, I'm going to purchase my way out of that if I can. Time to myself/wife is worth the money. Also time to pursue other pursuits that may bring in more money.

if you are already making $100k, your wife not working is not going to make you poor

I pay $225/week for 3 kids in daycare. I know that is on the lower end, but it is also a pretty barebones daycare operation. We just need someone to keep them alive for 8ish hours per day, so it works for us. In Louisiana, the average child care costs for a 4-year old are $400/month. In Texas, it is $550/month. This all goes back too the discussion of necessary spending vs discretionary spending.

This is what I'd prefer when that time comes. It is just my nature.

Honestly, depending on what you need to live at a certain level in some places (basic home prices for decent neighborhoods, private schools, taxes), 200k doesn't go that far.

This

There are only 3 counties in the entire US where $200k household income would be anything less than double the median income. Even in Loudoun County, VA, with a median income of $120k, $200k would go quite a long ways.

True, but its also not maximizing potential.

Goal is to retire at 55 not 65.

my next door neighbor did, after moving her from Arkansas they saw the price for tuition, she converted and had all of 4 of her children baptized Catholic

There are a few schools in the area that would save me around 4k per kid but I don't think the wife will let me change their school at this point. I'd be fine living in Zachary, Central or P'Ville but the wife hates the commute. I'm sure she'll change her mind if BR continues declining.

You don't have to make 100K for this to happen, but you do have to manage your finances well 24/7/365.

maybe in California or NYC. I know this is the place of OT ballers, but if your household can't survive on 200k a year, you have serious spending problems.

Conversely, they may have a serious saving "problem."

People on 200k a year don't necessarily live much grander lifestyles day to day. The big difference is they don't need to save 5 months for a TV by counting every dollar, but overall, it can be very similar. It pays off bigly at retirement though.

I have very low expectations out of our child care provider. All of the parenting/education is done when they're with us. I'm sure I could spend another $750 per kid and find a daycare that teaches Latin, and bravo if that's your choice, but it isn't a big deal to us.

I know this is off topic, but unless your wife is a teacher or otherwise has that ability, keeping the kids at home with her all day is not necessarily maximizing their potential.

I couldn't imagine my wife doing all the things daycare does in regards to structure, lessons, and socializing. Not to say it's not possible.

Don't you also usually get a discount for each additional kid? Or is that just in Catholic schools?

Same here. I can cover our needs, but I can't cover all of our wants. We just prioritize those wants, including our want to stay home with the kids, and came up with a plan after that. As soon as I can cover our wants up to the point of staying home with the kids as well, that will be the plan. Whether they turn 5 before that time is another story altogether.

perhaps

and like I said, my daughter is in daycare and has been since she was 2, and she has thrived in daycare

but I also feel like she may be more advanced in some things with more one on one learning
