The average welder makes $18.00.
The average plumber makes about $20.00.
The OT would have you believe its double that.
If you're counting call center employees, receptionists, etc., yeah blue collar people might make more on average.

Bay Area? Because a $50k salary is approaching the median household income in this country. Unless you're sending kids to an Ivy League day care I don't see how it's a financial wash to be a stay at home Mom..

$100k is enough to buy a house in most areas of the West coast. I do live in an apartment but I'm 1 block from the ocean. I could buy a house in Riverside but I would rather live where I live.

2 kids in daycare is probably going to be around $1500-$2000/month, conservatively
I just don't see the point in making a wife work for a take home of $1k/month

The median household income and median family income in Ascension Parish is ~$61k and ~$72k, respectively. That is the highest in the state. A household/family making $100k is well above average and should be doing well.

I made as much as I make now in my summer job in college, but I was working 80-90 hours a week doing it

Some families choose to have a single income. Have you seen the cost and insanity of child care? Then both coming home, having to clean, cook, etc. Sure they'd make more money but is the 20-30k worth it? Some families say no.

i can def see how ~20 hours of manual labor per week can be rewarding but any longer than that i think id lose my mind
it also seems the manual labor guys are putting in over 40 hrs per week to make their $100k per year -

My wife and I make $130,000 in DFW and barely get by.
House, 2 cars, kids etc etc

its how they make their money (read: overtime)
I know this because my Dad owned his own contracting business, I've worked labor jobs growing up, and I now deal with contractors (labor jobs) regularly

This all depends on if that's on a one family income. My wife and I combine for 100k a year before taxes, and we have three kids in daycare. The daycare bill is more than my house and two car notes each month. If only I was making 100k and my wife stayed home with the kids, that same household income goes a hell of a lot farther.

I think horror costs is subjective. At $40K, one would be paying $3500/month for daycare. That's insane wealth money, and probably double the cost of mosts mortgage.
I haven't paid daycare in MANY years, but I'm guessing most people's horror level is paying $600-700/kid to be in daycare.
