Yes, bro I can say this because it’s exactly what I do for a living. The numbers check out.

If workers are meeting deadlines, quotas, goals, etc why does it matter?
If workers aren't meeting business objectives they should be fired.

I work in DME sales and we do a LOT of business with Medicare and private insurance companies. Everything has to be recorded according to our contracts.
It isn’t ideal but I knew what I was getting into when I took the job. It’s also one of the reasons I’m looking to get out of the job. The main one is that my remote job is being relocated to Plano TX with or without me.

I know of a government facility where they kept clogging up the toilets with condoms on night shift back in the 90s. No telling how many people "at work" are shopping on Amazon from their office.
So, even if they are at the office...some people are still having sex and shopping on the clock.

I have worked from home since 2002 (full disclosure: I have worked for myself since 2002) and I promise I can easily get done in 4 hours what I used to get done in 8-10 hours in an office. People at home just do shite they want in their downtime instead of trying to look like they are busy.

I guess it is nice to have a job where you can work from home. All three of my jobs require me to be present at the job site.

My wife works remote, when I'm home we squeeze in a quicky.....but I hardly see 2 minutes really effecting the total time worked.

Most of the folks I know who work remotely really shouldn't be trusted to work remotely and take tremendous advantage of it. Of course there are the exceptions that make it the rule, but in my experience and observations - those that work as efficiently remotely are absolutely the exceptions.

..and are still more efficient than someone who goes into the office every day and wastes 2-3 hours bullshitting with their coworkers.

You'll notice there were zero stats about production falling off or missing deadlines. The workweek as we know it is archaic.
This.
I went from fully in office to fully remote once the pandemic hit (and will not be returning to the office). I often run an errand or hit the gym during what would technically be considered a work hour.
Guess what, I also bang out a shite ton of work well before and after what would be my in office hours, and I gladly get stuff done on weekends and holidays.
I would say this flexibility to work on demand easily makes me more productive than before.
I would argue that productivity is actually higher in most places because of this. People are happier and more productive when they are actually working because now they can get a few things done in down time rather than just sit twiddling there thumbs in an office. If they get the work load completed, who cares what they do during down time (obviously within reason).

But what about the important stat? Production? Are they getting the work done? How many people have jobs where they might have 10 or hours of down time a week? Who cares if they have a drink or whatever, as long as the company gets the work they are paying them to do that is all that really matters.
And I know this is just one example, but I used to work with this guy (he is retired now) who was a full blown alcoholic. Every morning he would come in, in a good mood and would be fine for about the first 3 hours of the day.
After about 10AM if anyone had work related issues to talk to him about they would wait until when he returned from lunch. He would go to lunch then come back in a good mood. And it was the same routine as the morning. For the next 3 hours he was good. The closer it got to 4 oclock the more unpleasant he was to deal with.. So anyone who had anything to talk to him about around that time.. They would just wait until the morning.
If someone was scheduling a meeting he needed to attend the ideal time was either 8AM or 1:30PM. He got in at 7:30AM and would return from lunch at 1PM. Im not sure that's considered a functionable alcoholic, but it was no secret that he was an alcoholic.
Off topic here, I have been around alcoholics, but before working with this guy I never seen just how someone is impacted if they don't have a drink after a certain time. Obviously its not their fault. My dad drank a lot, but he could go without. He could go awhile without drinking, no problem, but he would come home from work and drink a 6 pack while he mowed the grass, worked in his shop, sat outside talking with the neighbors, etc, but this is a topic for another thread.
Anyway, being in an office for 8-9 hours a day 5 days a week, humans were not meant to be in that type of environment. I hated being in an office with cubes everywhere. The white and gray that fills the office is depressing and then add a few goofballs in the mix. There is always that one person who would say the corniest shite that seemed to talk to everyone he passed by and thankfully you are aware it would look completely crazy to just go off on him, otherwise, without that awareness you would have already told him to STFU and that he is corny and not at all funny and to stop talking to everyone because no one gives a frick about the stupid shite they talk about.
But yeah, again, who cares what workers do as long as they are getting the job done and not doing anything stupid that can make the company look bad then no one should give a frick.

Ding ding ding. This site is prime evidence that people also dick around instead of working when in the office.

Yeah that 12% number is way low. I'd bet it's 45%

There’s no way I could drink during the day and finish the work I need to get done daily
