I finally convinced my wife to take the kids south to Alexandria, but now she is worried about being stuck down there for extended period of time if they keep bumping it south. Even if Alexandria gets ice, my parents still have a whole home generator and a really good gas fireplace that can heat the whole house, so I still want them to go simply for that reason, especially since my youngest currently has the flu.
You are evacuating for an ice storm? That is absolutely crazy. It's not a hurricane man. Get ahold of yourselves.

The line for gas at the Perimeter Costco in ATL spilled out almost into the main road. People are really fricking dumb.

It will get dry fluffy snow. A lot of it but just snow not ice is predicted.

My stepdad asked me what the 400w outlet on his Toyota truck bed would run if shite hits the fan
Maybe an electric blanket.
Tell him to google the inverted flower pot candle heaters. They seem to work well for small rooms.

Possible prolonged period of no power, below freezing temps (down in the single digits), with kids (one currently sick with the flu) and minimal ways to provide heat?
Yes. My wife and kids are going to be comfortable at my parents house this weekend while I stay behind to take care of house, pets and neighbors.

You get enough ice, you can have widespread power outages for several days and it’ll down trees as well. And he has a kid with the flu. He’s simply sending them to his parents who have a fireplace and some alternative heat. Sounds like a good husband and parent to me.

Temps may be below freezing for next 10 days meaning if you have trees and poles down with no power it’s not gonna melt in a day or two allowing roads to be cleared and power restored.
It can be worse than a hurricane. 90 degrees with no power is miserable but won’t kill you. Single digit temps with wind chill in negatives and no power and no heat can kill you

The local Birmingham meteorologists have spent the last couple of days saying cold rain.

I hope you are right.
Otherwise I'm sending my wife and kids into the worst part of the ice storm

Duke, sir, I need you to take back the foot of mountain snow you’re trying to send me in the Bluegrass state. I did not ask for this.

Um... no offense, but are you stupid or something? Last big ice storm we had here in 1994... my folks has no power for 10 days... and the temps were at or above freezing for most of that and it still wasn't fun times. I sure as hell wouldn't recommend going without power for over week in single digit temps with young kids.
