Shockingly my farm got power back on today. Before even many areas in local towns

Guess spending 250k a year on electricity puts you on the priority list

Some nice pretty snow this afternoon, nice change from freezing rain Sunday. Weather apps forecasts contribute to suck.

When is the 1/31-2/1 Major Deep South Winter Storm Thread getting started?

I think we're actually going to get some snow from this one. The Lowcountry Oytersfest was scheduled for Sunday and the organizers said yesterday it was an all weather event. Today they cancelled it...forecasting a high of 31 with gusts up to 30 mph.

No she’s home in south Louisiana .. left ahead of the storm — she was prepped and ready for a few days of no electricity but got nervous about low temps and being too cold so she came home.

Its not true. NES linemen are union, as are the contractors brought in. My sister is on the city council. She's as pro-union as they make them. She said those rumors are false. Some offers lacked proper certifications to work on certain aspects of the grid that are required. Others turned away were asking exorbitant amounts.

I haven't had much time to read or post much but we finally got our power back at our house in Tennsippibama this afternoon. There are still PLENTY just around here locally without it and I know across north MS and even Nashville.

All I know is that this week has frickING SUCKED and there are many who have it way worse than we have

I moved my truck where the sun would help melt the snow on my driveway. I got my driveway and my rear deck cleaned off before the deep freeze hit again. I had blowing snow last night and the temperature right now is 4 degrees with the wind the wind chill is -3 degrees.

We have been thinking about moving South to escape the cold winter to either South Arkansas or North Louisiana. After what this area got in ice and what I remember when I lived in the Shreveport area I don't know. Northeast Louisiana is still dealing with power outages. My wife has family in that area that are still without power with trees on their houses.

East of Knoxville, right now about four inches of snow, and it's falling heavier than it did overnight. Local predictions of 2 to 4 inches total today are massive underestimates. Temps are low teens and dropping. Pets who don't get along are all in the warmest room (woodstove). We do have power and are trying to avoid turning the propane on more than needed.
The soups and chili that I made between freezes are keeping us well fed, but the kitchen has huge south facing double hung 16 over 16 TDL windows. Great most of the year, but not now.

Y'all stay safe.

stay safe. we are closing in on 7 days with no power. so far we've lost one pet but i manged to get someone to clear the 2 trees off the driveway so we can get to our other vehicles if we need them.

ceiling leaking from ice dams; but we had friends who were shut-ins who had it worse so we're doing what we can for them and it keeps us from bitching and moaning about our own problems. everyone is fricked.
