Who do you trust most to hire the next Mickey Loomis?

Gayle Benson or Mickey Loomis himself?
Of course Lauscha will have his input either way.
No other answers are allowed, keep the conversation based in reality please.

Is Gayle dying?
Otherwise, Mickey Loomis is not getting replaced.

Gayle will pick the NFL version of Joe Dumars ... so Matt Millen?

The default would be Gayle, but the reality is she would hire an executive search committee to handle the interviews and make recommendations

Mickey decides to retire at end of year.
He tells Gayle's to hire Khai Harley.
Hiring a person of color for GM gives the team additional comp pick. Makes Gayle look both smart and inclusive.
Khai replaces no one in the scouting department.
Mickey still works out of Airline Drive in whatever role he gives himself.
Nothing changes.

which at that point i don't really fall in line with the interest of a 3rd party that they actually give a frick about their recommendations and don't have some backdoor political reasons for their shite arse recommendations given with no accountability if hiring a failure.

I agree - Loomis isn't out BUT - I'll play ball. There are several acomplished guys on staff in the scenario Loomis slides up - look for Thomas Dimitroff to get a good look. He did a good job building ATL's super bowl run.

this is the correct answer. my suggestion is for any who cannot deal with the current state of affairs. turn off the tv and stop watching.

If the Dumars thing hadn't happened, one would expect Gayle to lean on the league to help her. They have consultants directly from the league that they can hire to do this, to vet and get lists of candidates that she and Lauscha and whomever could interview
However, she did the Dumars thing so I can't say I trust any of them

This. Gayle handles the Pelicans like a step child but she’s way more careful with the Saints.
They would hire one of the guys that missed out last year. Ray Agnew (Lions), Chad Alexander (Chargers), Terrance Gray (Bills) maybe John McKay (Rams)

so.....?
You've been one of the more critical posters recently and we'll side bar discussions of what's right and wrong and too extreme but what is the fix bunchie? Would you rather mickey being making the football decision for the organizaion of who to hand the operations of the organization to?

It’s a night and day difference in how she runs both. She would do what you said in getting a committee from both outside and inside league circles and committees and go through that process.
And if, say, a coach is hired before (like Coen with the Jags before they hired their GM) then the coach would likely be involved as well

I don't know if there is Chad. It is not the answer you want, but unfortunately its extremely difficult to put any faith that there is a "fix" for this ownership. Ms. Benson is a wonderful woman by all accounts, and I appreciate beyond words what she is doing for this city, and what she will continue to do.
But I do not think she has what it takes to be an owner. This will sound harsh, but she was a failed interior decorator with no business acumen that got very fortunate and fell in love with a billionaire. Tom was a ruthless guy and even he made a lot of terrible decisions, but ultimately some good ones.
The best thing would be that she has learned some lessons, and relies on the league a bit. That she brings in multiple outside consultants that actually know what they are doing, and makes a really smart choice outside of her comfort zone, and that person works out given that she has never been afraid to spend money.
One has to doubt it given how the Dumars situation was handled, and how they turtled after the outsider in Griffin didn't work out
But maybe she treats the Saints differently. Especially if the Pelicans season continues to go poorly she realizes the erred

The jockey falling off the horse she named after Dumars was just an early indicator on things to come.
Posted on 10/26/26 at 2:39 pm to The Hurricane
We joked about Dumars being hired for YEARS because everyone knew they were friends.
And she went out of her comfort zone and hired this smooth talking salesman outsider in Griffin and it didn't work out
So she goes and hires her friend without even a search. Just auto hires him seemingly before the season was even over.
And it was predictably, so far, a very poor move

What’s the fix if Loomis is retained?
Letting a would be demoted Loomis make the decision would be silly. You let Gayle use her vast Rolodex to help make an informed decision with her executive team. Use a consulting firm. This isn’t hard
