When the Steelers tried the fake punt, a couple of players celebrated as if they made the first down.

But they were well short. Were they not aware of the actual line to gain?

Think it was close enough for them to think they had it.

It wasn’t that close at all. Didn’t even need a measurement.

From my seats in 640 it was clear he was about a yard short. We were all laughing at the celebration from them that ensued.

It wasn’t even close. Even if it’s a half yard short, they would’ve measured.

Saw a theory in another thread that they were trying to sell it. As in, celebrate to trick the zebras into thinking they made it.

Everyone watching with me noticed (on TV). They were very excited and animated celebrating the first down that wasn’t. I figured it would be on MNF C’mon Man tonight. It might have...I didn’t see it.

That would be some baseball shite I've never seen before in football had it worked for them

The guy landed short but then kinda rolled beyond the first down line. Obviously he was short, but I can see how he thought he got the first.

I don't think he rolled past the line either. He didn't pass it until he got up and shoved his way through on the way to celebrating.

He did get 2-3 yds after contact, I guess that might have thrown him off.

Despite the action after the play was over, I still can’t fathom why you call a fake punt there.

I have to admit that when I first saw what happened, I thought that it was a completely moronic call by Tomlin. However, the more that I replayed it, I came away thinking that if Craig Robertson doesn't make an outstanding play, it would have easily gotten a first down.

I actually thought the call was somewhat reasonable.

If you punt, and the saints score, can't imagine there will be much time left on the clock.

If you fake and get it, you win.

If you fake and don't get it, and the saints score you can expect some time left on the clock with the short field.

Plus they may have scouted something that made them think it was a high probability play.

Yeah it was a good call and would have probably worked if not for the juju fumble.
