Did falcons drafting penix show how bad the cousins' signing was?

Wrong.

I'm going to copy/paste my reply in one of the other Rattler threads:

Jury's still out on Haener. Obviously Rattler is an unknown. Let the new OC work with these youngsters and whoever earns the backup position (please God not Peterman!) will most likely take some live snaps at some point in the season. Then we'll start to get a better idea about what we need next draft class.

Who cares? It was a mid round pick that didn’t work out. They need to keep swinging

Rattler is a value pick on a premium position. Ranked #90 on most big boards. You develop him and hope you can make something out of him

QBs after the 2nd round are largely darts at a wall.

I think it shows how bad trading to get that pick was. So we essentially picked a QB in the 4th and 5th round of this year's draft (I don't care about trading the 7th rounder away for Haener).

Nah

Just shows how much the saints suck at drafting

??

What?

Did you think Haener would be competing for the starting job already lol

He was drafted to be developed and see if he could one day compete for the starter job..same as Rattler

If Saints aren't drafting a 1st round QB they should be trying dart throws every season till they find a true franchise QB

This is more an indictment on Peterman but also long term planning for life after Carr

Rattler is a good value pick with potential upside.

Gonna be an interesting camp at QB, I'm guessing;
Haener- the mid-major guy who's been told he ain't good enough, but has always worked hard and been efficient at what he's been asked to do

Rattler- initially a Heisman candidate who got dropped for a bad game (while still being undefeated), and went and revived his career at an SEC doormat, where he had moments of greatness.

Both dudes are going to have chips on their shoulders, which should lead to a good competition.

Our qb room went from one of the elite rooms in the NFL to um...Animal House.

I think the Spencer Rattler pick shows how bad the Bo Nix pick was, if anything. We got a better QB prospect in rd 5, than the Broncos did at #12.

How do you figure?

Bo nix is probably the most accurate qb in the draft. He is going to do well in Payton system.

Rattler can make every throw. He is a steal in the 6th round.

Low risk, high reward if either of them ever do anything noteworthy! I honestly can’t remember a 5th round pick, ever. Who can name one who did anything without using google?

I don’t remember the exact round # of the picks but here is a shot:

—- Ian Book (4th round)
—. Haener (4th round with a trade up to acquire that draft spot)
—- Spencer Rattler (5th round).

I don’t mind taking flyers for QBs in the 5th to 7th rd but they pissed away to two 4th round picks and that’s criminal !!!!

But that’s my point, I don’t ever expect anyone after the 3rd round to be around very long. Sure we have had some guys that we drafted in later rounds and be great players, but they are the exception, not the rule.

Name one QB the Saints drafted and developed the past 5 seasons. Kubiak helped develop Purdy, so now let him work with Haener and Rattler. Let's see how much better they both get with great coaching.
