The trade market for NFL quarterbacks is trending toward being robust this offseason.

According to The Athletic's Jeff Howe, the Washington Commanders "have already inquired about every quarterback who might be available, according to a source. The early digging is a sign that they plan to be aggressive in an attempt to upgrade the position.

"The Indianapolis Colts, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers also figure to be diligent, according to sources."

Not a surprise, the real work began this weekend with restructuring contracts. Mickey will always work his magic.

I just hope they don't reach and give up too much. JW on an incentive laden deal isn't a bad move. He knows the system and has been "in the building".

I'm really interested to see how much of that system remains in place. No doubt some of it will, but Carmichael has been following Payton for 16 years, and for the first time this offense is really his. I'm sure in those 16 years he's come across some things he would like to do differently.

They “figure to be diligent.”

Just speculation based on our need at QB.

My money’s on Jameis.

This makes the most sense.

Giving up the farm for anyone but Rodgers (and even then) is a dumb move.

This team damn near made the playoffs in a season where they played a 4th string QB, were missing their best WR (and the rest were practice squad players), missing offensive tackles off and on.....

Use your picks to add to your WR depth, sign Winston and make a run.

This.

Just two days ago Jim Trotter reported the Saints & Winston were about to begin contract negotiations.

Winston is set to become a free agent, and Jim Trotter reported on NFL Network that the Saints have either already started talking contract with Winston or will start negotiating with him soon.

If they want multiple years of picks for him, I don't see how they can do that for 37 yr old who is contemplating retirement year to year. Wilson is a better trade prospect due to age and willingness (apparently) to play more than 2 years or so. Watson is a mess and unless there is clarity soon (there won't be), dumping assets into him is a mistake.

The clear answer here keep your assets and sign Winston.

Agreed. After beating TB last Oct the Saints walked away from the dome 5-2, but more importantly w/o their starting QB. We went 4-6 the rest of the season.

We can win our Division and compete in the POs with Winston, and key additions (FA or draft) at WR, TE, and OL. DEF has playmakers at every level - DL, LB, DB - that match up well vs TB, GB, and others.

WHO DAT!

On the surface this seems the most obvious route. I think it’s the one we’ll take at this point without Sean. But, we’d be remiss not to explore options and ask if it’s the best one.

We have a strong team, defense especially, that’s obvious. The question we have to ask is can Jameis Winston win us a Super Bowl? I’m not so sure he can, though he could absolutely get us to the playoffs.

After the past 5 years, the division and making the playoffs isn’t enough anymore. We have the parts to win it all now. If an obvious upgrade at QB to take us there is on the table, you do what you must to get him.

Cousins would be a home run.

Wentz would have been a great fit with Payton. Without, it's probable that you get the same result as Indy.

Relative to what we are likely to end up with it's true.

You guys expecting to find a pro-bowl type QB are going to be very disappointed. If we can find a guy like Cousins, we will be very fortunate.

Give me an average qb, a healthy CGM, a decent #2 WR and TE in the draft and resolve the Kamara situation favorably and this team will be fine. A great qb makes it a super bowl contender though

So more like getting on base after pop up that the fielder drops? It's not a home run but better than the other option in that situation.

Well, obviously Cousins isn't a top QB. But, he's probably a top half QB. And, finding one of those guys isn't easy.

Most here don't have a realistic view of what options are really available.

If you're going to spend the assets on another Q.B. we're better off bypassing Cousins and spending a bit more on Wilson. Get the best available. If not Wilson save the picks and sign Winston.

Yeah I don't get what some of the folks on here imagine that any of these other journeyman QBs is going to deliver that Winston didn't already give us. He was 5-2... had a great TD to INT ratio... had no MT and castoff WRs... had a patchwork line... Give the kid a shot with the full offense intact and if he sucks, start over next year when, it's worth noting, everyone thinks the draft class will be better.
