Would a 6th rounder be enough for them to give him to us?

I considered that sort of thing, too. Maybe Pace calls up Mickey and says: I'm gonna match this, but then I'll give him back for a 6th?

I would like to have Meredith. Would be a really nice addition to the offense if he's healthy and back to form.

You know they had at least some discussions with Pace.

You mean if they match and we still pursue him? Likely more than a 5th and if most of the guarantees are signing bonus then this is past the point of sign and trade.

I just don’t see a respectable GM tying up so much money in one positional group, especially WR: they’ve already added Robinson and Gabriel and they’re not going to throw Kevin White away, not after spending a first on him. He’s their envisioned #2 with Robinson being their #1 and Gabriel the slot.

they have out 100M worth of contracts this offseason just among pass catchers.

who knows if they want to match even this small contract

the bears wouldnt tender him for around $3 mil next season and a 2nd rd pick, but you think their gonna go 2 years for $10 mil? they have shelled out for 3 pass catchers already, and have been bringing in other "cheaper" FA WR throughout this offseason

they may match but it would be a questionable decision by their FO

#Bears tendered Cameron Meredith at $1.907M and now they will have to make a decision. They could have tendered him at 2nd rd level ($2.914M) and ensured no one tendered him.

Fan opinions are generally worthless, but Bears fans seem unanimous that they will match and would have matched anything under 7-8 a year.

I think we'll get him. Bears are in a rebuild...not win now.

That seems a little odd. It doesn't really make sense from a GM's perspective, but hopefully it works out for us.

If they were going to do that then they would have put a second round tender on him. I think they’re ignoring that. Why risk him going somewhere else when you could ensure he stayed (no one was giving up a 2nd rounder) and only paid $2mil

Possible Pace wanted him longer term but wasn't sure what the market was considering his injury. If he was on the 2nd or 1st round tender there was no way anyone would even entertain signing him, and they'd only have him for 1 season and then he's unrestricted and potentially gone.

With this way, he can still keep him if the money isn't horrible (which it isn't) and didn't have to risk overpaying

It would be extremely odd and clearly looks like the fans are talking out of their arse.

They could have "guaranteed" keeping him for $3 mil, but would go up to $7-8 mil? They only save $1 mil by not upping the offer. NONE of that makes sense.

Now $5 mil is closer to $3 mil, so this is more in that maybe range. If we actually gave him $7 mil per there'd be no way they'd match. It would look very bad on their part to overspend by $4 mil considering all the other money they invested into the position this year.
