There is nothing “baffling” about this signing. Young is an above average edge rusher in his prime. You lose him and you’re down to Granderson and Bresee and some draft picks for pressure on qbs.

Absolutely baffling decision. I hope Loomis burns in hell for this. This might be worse than the Byrd contract
Not really. It actually saves us money on the cap this year. Pretty much every cap person predicted we would extend either him or Juwan Johnson because of cap mechanics.
And 25 year old DEs of his talent level get paid. This contract isn’t even that big at all by DE standards.

He played 740 snaps and had a quiet 7 sack season. His value as an edge rusher is still top 25.
He had 5.5 sacks stop making shite up to feel better. Young has 22 sacks in 5 seasons with 7.5 as a rookie.
He’s a 4 sack a year guy, and is more deserving on this contract than Davenport or Turner. I’ll give him that. But this like most Loomis moves will prove to be a mistake.

quote:Can confirm. Would have been 9 mil on the cap without him on the roster this year, and now likely with him on the roster only about 7 mil on the cap (forgot to include the proration already on the cap for this year in my estimate earlier).
It actually saves us money on the cap this year.
So probably a 2 mil in savings and we keep him (but yes, that means he gets more expensive next year, for having him cheap this year; money is literally the same whatever the structure, people can cry more about can kicking).
Speaking of Johnson though, haven't seen news on him, so guessing he is still in play?

I do wish we’d go all in on financial responsibility but it’s not gonna happen.
Not with Loomis in charge. We needed to not re-sign anyone and move down in the draft this year to get more pics.
Neither will happen with him in charge.

We'll definitely have more beef on the field more often now, so hopefully that translates to more run stopping power.
the other part of that is your offense will need to score and stay in the game. I can't imagine the Saints offense having worse injury luck than last season. That wasn't the end all be all but it sure as shite was a factor.
[quote]We definitely need to target a quality CB in FA (and in the draft), otherwise Chase won't have the time to get home.
might need to do both.
get a veteran that knows what he's doing in the system.
Revel, Amos, Porter, Hairston, Parrish, Morrison, etc. in the Draft?

Yeah that's what I was suggesting, grab a sure fire vet, and then also keep drafting CBs every single draft in round 2 or 3 (unless the value matches up in round 1 vs other positions). Definitely should do both this year, and if the rookie works out you don't need to look for another vet next year.

the other part of it is that the offense has to chew up more clock.
it's complementary football.
when things go as bad as they did for the Saints last year, it's so much easier to see that it isn't just cut and dry.
there are levels to this shite

He looks cool out there i don't mind this. Excellent drip for a plus size DE

Nick did a deep dive on him that basically said despite all of this he never really impacted games and that it was just artificial fluff. The dude is not good
His numbers aren’t indicative of a guy who really impacts games. Hes the 2nd best DE on a good team, and is paid as such

Imagine adding a “Jalon walker” w chase and granderson helping set edge pressures
Posted on 3/10/25 at 10:44 pm to Fun Bunch
Honestly I think Chase gets more sacks if we got more push up the middle.
Look at Josh sweat this year. I’d say Chase is better than him but he took off this year with Jalen Carter starting to dominate the interior.
And he got paid more than Chase. We didn’t overpay, it’s a solid contract, but like Carr, one we can’t afford right now at the time it was signed.

Eagles also had a dominant run game on offense and usually led in their games.
that set their defense up for more opportunistic situations.
The Eagles hardly threw the ball with AJ Brown, Devonta Smith, and Goedert at their disposal.
think about that.

You sound just like Loomis. It’s exactly like the Carr situation, we having to make moves pushing contracts like this years in the future to fit the Carr contract. Same thing will happen with Chase. He should not have been signed last year.
You drafted two defensive ends in the first and second round. You should be forced to live with what you scouted and drafted instead of trying to save your arse and putting these problems on the next gm in three years because of your stupidity.

Good god let’s not even play football too. fricking drama bitches. We are paying below average starting money for a qb and edge rush. Let’s make loud noises.

You just don’t get it. Loomis has set us up for failure with his house of cards approach. We are the only team in the league that is this deep in the hole. And it’s every year. We are at a strategic disadvantage starting off every year. The absolute best we can hope for is to be mediocre.
Most fans are tired of it. It shoijda been cleaned up years ago so we could at least be close to even footing with everyone else and maybe could have kept some of our younger players over the years. Loomis is an absolute disaster and everyone can see it but him.
