On a loaded DL too. 21 QB hits for Young.
This is a good deal

This fanbase is insufferable. They cry when they let everyone walk. Cry when we don’t have the money to sign our own guys. We sign a guy who at times can be dominant at times, stayed healthy last year, and then they cry. Is it risky? Yeah. Letting him walk would have been even riskier. Can’t i stir the melt this dumb fanbase would have if we did and he goes on to thrive.

Great re-sign
Young is still very talented and young enough to warrant this deal.

They would not have brought him back (new staff) just for the helluva of it.
it's tough because he's way better rushing the passer, so you'll need to be a run stop unit first!!!!!!!! If you can't stop the run, then you aren't going to get as much out of this signing. He's still 26 as said and should be better coached this season.

He signs a 1 year prove it deal, finishes 60th in sacks with 5.5 and now we pay him like a top 10 pass rusher! WTF!
he was still top 7 in the league in both hurries and pressures. He played 740 snaps and had a quiet 7 sack season. His value as an edge rusher is still top 25.
Did you even watch him play last season?

I’m as negative on the Saints as most rational people but that account is all negative all the time. Nothing but.
I’d be cutting costs as much as possible but it’s clear the Saints aren’t going to do that.
There are 3 positions you pay: QB, LT, Pass Rusher.
If you’re going to pay someone, pay the 25 year old that is very talented and has a good year coming off injury. And it’s less than what the top 25ish salaries are.

I mean par for the course would be at least 27-30 million
On a 3 year with a player like him, likely the first 2 years and then the signing bonus, so maybe something like:
Year 1- 2 mil + 2.8 mil
Year 2- 15 mil + 2.8 mil
Year 3- 20 mil + 2.8 mil
2 void years 2.8 mil each for 5.6 mil
14 mil signing bonus spread (shown at the ends)
So probably yeah between 27-35 mil guaranteed, being more like a 2 year, 31 mil deal.

Greg Rousseau, 4 years, 74.39 million. 8 sacks, 10 QB hits.

He’s a DE that resigned with the Bills. I was comparing his contract to Young’s.

Yeah I figured it was for comparison, but that seems like a crazy overpay for them tbh.
Edit:
Actually ignore me. For some reason read qb hits as pressures.
I'll have to look into this dude.

quote:Going to a 3-4, we'll be running a lot more 5 man fronts (with guys like Chase and Granderson playing stand up OLB rushers), and we targeted a NT in the trade while also signaling we are retaining Shepherd (who'll make a good 3-4 end type, as well as Jordan if we don't cut him post June 1st).
so you'll need to be a run stop unit first
We'll definitely have more beef on the field more often now, so hopefully that translates to more run stopping power.
We definitely need to target a quality CB in FA (and in the draft), otherwise Chase won't have the time to get home.

Absolutely baffling decision. I hope Loomis burns in hell for this. This might be worse than the Byrd contract

Nick did a deep dive on him that basically said despite all of this he never really impacted games and that it was just artificial fluff. The dude is not good
