Colin has Payton on regularly and this morning Colin brought up Taysom. Payton had this to day:

1. He texted Loomis about Taysom's performance because they are "best friends." - this is already setting the stage for a minimal trade return

2. Payton said when he's back in 1-2 years coaching - literally means he'll be back next year

3. He will take Taysom off Loomis' hands - Payton better look to trade for the moon for his pet project, but Loomis will probably trade Taysom and a 3rd for a 5th.

I don't find any of that troubling.

Yeah, none of that is troubling and most of it is already known

The troubling part is his best friend relationship with Loomis and how this will impact the return we get for him.

Most troubling part would be Taysom Hill no longer being a Saint. He is the most winning football player we have on the team. He’s also the most likable.

I've literally said on this board countless times this is going to happen and I get tons of downvotes every time.

Payton is the best coach in the history of this franchise. Loomis, Dennis and Gail are not going to frick him. They just won't. They want to keep that relationship strong. We as fans don't care, but they will. Could we still get a decent return? Sure. Would we get a better return if he left on bad terms? ABSOLUTELY.

Sean is going to be in their ear so fast once these talks start happening. Hell, he probably is now. He wants to succeed at his next stop. He needs assets for that. He won't have them if his next team give them all to us for him. He knows that. He will absolutely try every schmoozing tactic he can to make sure we don't trade rape his next team.

I don't think we can afford to trade Taysom, ironically, b/c of Payton's man crush on him and the terrible contract Hill got

It's literally impossible to post a more stupid thought than what you continually do regarding Taysom's contract.

It's more because Loomis included him in the contract adjustments last offseason. If we hadn't done that, he would be more cuttable.

As it is right now, he is not cuttable or tradeable next offseason. $24M Dead cap hit if we do. 2024 it's more doable.

why are we in any sort of predicament getting rid of literally one of the few offensive weapons helping us WIN football games? We're 0-5 without taysom this year.

For some reason though the posters here at ST hate on Taysom. It's the oddest thing.

Hill is 32.

He won't have much value.

Did I say anywhere that it's something we should do? The OP has information about Sean wanting to trade for him. I'm just stating the facts about his cap hits. Relax boss.

Per OTC trading him pre-June 1st would be a net wash on the cap (saves about $50k) as the next team would have to take on the guaranteed salary. If they wait until after 6/01, they can reduce his 2023 cap hit to $4M you just wouldn't get the immediate draft capital.

Yeah that's the thing with his contract. We have to reduce the overpay (in terms of cap hit) every year, which makes the pro-rated portion that much bigger (making a potential cut that much harsher). It's a monster that's been building for a few years.

It's more doable if we don't have to restructure him, but we will have to restructure him b/c of the $24M hit.

So it goes on and on for perpetuity

He's not worth his $10M average cap hit, let alone a $24M cap hit.

$24M is a nice price for an elite WR1
